After this we will see the UVA, unit of unique artists, a very enjoyable sight. From here we will walk to a view where one of the most famous photographs of Medellin during the armed conflict era, the photograph is evidence of how violent this era was. (???review) /// We will then walk to the location where the most infamous picture of the city during the era of the armed conflicts was taken, you will likely recognize this photo. // Photos of the families who were injured during this war show the resilience of our people to survive in this place during this time. (??)

You can enjoy a typical drink here called Guarapo.

Next, we will walk past barrio 20th of July, the barrio of independence, where we will explain the meaning of the graffiti art and culture, and how it is telling the true stories of the transformation of the comuna as we go up the mountain.
Passion fruit ice cream
You already know about the mechanical escalators, unique in the country, which will take us to a corridor that connected these violent communities. Where you will see the most graffiti art not long had no tourists at all.

Enjoy a good Colombian coffee and we will finish at our meeting point

The tour was awesome!! We had Yeison as a guide, he spoke great English and Spanish and was very knowledgeable of the history of the area. Yeison was a sweetheart and made us feel welcomed to the city. Sign up for this experience! It is unique and not what you’d expect it to be. Loved it and highly recommend it!

My family usually avoids guided tours like the plague, because it’s rare to find a tour guide who goes out of their way to make each tour experience feel truly individual and relevant, rather than “cookie cutter” sameness — and rarer still to find a guide who has a personal, relational connection to the place in which they work. That being said, we didn’t want to walk Comuna 13 without local perspective, and we were delighted to discover that our guide Yeison IS that rare combination. He spent extra time with us, answering dozens of questions about the Colombia drug conflict (then and now), introducing us to local vendors and artists, and even making it possible for us to purchase a piece of original artwork by one of the *incredibly* talented Comuna 13 graffiti artists and see his studio. In short, Yeison far exceeded every expectation we had. If you’re looking for a robotic tour guide in a uniform with a megaphone and a script, this is NOT your tour. If you’re looking for a local, authentic, gritty perspective full of heart and soul, and a guide who clearly loves what they do and believes in their message of hope and healing, look no further. This tour is spectacular. 🧡

I loved this experience. You can very well do this on your own for free, but if you’re like my husband and I, who like to learn about the history behind everything, then I definitely recommend a tour with these guys. I enjoyed it completely!! Our tour guide, Sebastian, is outstanding and such a great person overall.

We were able to see a part of Medellin in which we would not have gone in our own. Very nice local tour guide, added a few personal details which made that even better. Spectacular views from Comuna 13 on the city!

It was by far the best experience! Loved having Luis show us the neighborhood and explain the history of la communa 13 that he actually witnessed/ experienced first hand. Having someone that was born and raised and still lives in the area gives you the first hand experience of how everything actually happened and certain details you don’t get in textbooks. Definitely recommending to my friends and family and would recommend to anyone wanting to experience the true beauty of hip hop and amazing scenic views.
