At nightfall, join us to discover the delicious world of chocolate where we will learn the whole process from the seed to the delicious Chocolate bar, once the explanation is finished we will select some members of the group to grind the Cocoa to make your own chocolate bar. Once finished you will have the opportunity to taste several types of chocolate such as Dark Chocolate, Milk Chocolate and White Chocolate.
Once this sweet adventure is over, we will tour our farm to enter the extraordinary nightlife where we can see some species of frogs and toads such as the Giant Toad, the big chicken eater frog, the small “Jewels of the Forest” like the Hourglass Frog and the most emblematic of Costa Rica, the Red-Eyed Frog.
With luck during the tour, we can see some species of insects, mammals such as the sloth, raccoons and sometimes nocturnal birds.

I grew up with my family on an agricultural farm in Monteverde, where one of the main products was coffee.
Years later, the Don Juan project (which bears my grandfather's name) begins to show visitors the process for making coffee and after a few years the chocolate tour, but for reasons of climate the development of trees Cocoa was not the best and that is why a small farm was acquired in the Arenal Area where the climate is optimal for the cultivation of cocoa. Rather than being a guide to Coffee and Chocolate, I am passionate about nature and photography, which is why I am proud to teach what I know about the flora and fauna of Costa Rica not only to tourists, but also to my colleagues Andrés Pérez, Axel Soto and Yeudy Cruz who are our co-hosts, who also do the chocolate and night walk tour.

Where you'll be

With one of our guides or co-hosts, we will walk a distance of no more than 500 meters through a small cocoa plantation where we would learn all the processes such as cultivation, production, fermentation, drying, roasting and packing. Once the Chocolate part is finished, we will walk along the paths of the farm in search of the different nocturnal creatures that live there.

Tour was educational and our guide was very good. Chocolate making was fun and Drink of the Gods was good. Got some nice souvenirs but bought some milk chocolate to take with us and it was not good at all. Liked the chocolate covered coffee beans a lot. Adults enjoyed more than the kids, 11 and 16. Young boy, maybe 5, was with us and he absolutely loved all the bugs. We were expecting more of a hike through the forest. Something to do after dark but wouldn’t be on our repeat list.

This tour was fantastic. Our guide, Yeody, did such a wonderful job keeping us entertained, making us feel at home and sharing tons of knowledge with us about the plants and animals in Fortuna. We saw so many amazing frogs, spiders and other insects and even got to see two sloths. Our two young boys loved the animals and making chocolate… they didn’t complain once. I highly recommend it.

Our tour with Alex was amazing! Our small family of 3 was the only one on the tour so we felt incredibly lucky to have such an intimate experience. With Alex’s sharp eyes we had several animal encounters, including a poison dart frog, several iguanas, fruit bats, and a three toed sloth - too many to list! The chocolate making experience was also fantastic as we learned about everything from the growing of cocao to making our own bars of chocolate. HIGHLY recommended tour with special appreciation and kudos to our tour guide Alex whose knowledge and stories really made the evening special.

Alex was a great tour guide, we saw a lot of wildlife on the walk in addition to all the cacao trees. Saw Iguanas, Jesus Lizards, Sloths, frogs, spiders, cicadas and a lot of other trees (bananas, papayas, pineapples etc) . Learnt a lot about chocolate making. Our tour guides were also very accommodating and helped me click great pictures from my camera, often helping me with lighting or composition. Highly recommend.
