What you'll do
***We are practicing these Covid-19 precautions for upcoming trips:****
1. Social Distancing: We'll now be meeting at the trailhead, rather than being in the van together.
2. No Shared Items: I'm asking customers to bring their own water bottles and winter attire. I will not have gloves or hats available to use.
3. Bicycles: Handlebars, shifters, saddles are sanitized after every ride.
4. Free Cancelation: If you can't make it or even feel uncomfortable, you'll get a full refund.
If you haven't had a chance to try out fat-biking yet, now is your chance! "Fat bikes" are like mountain bikes but way better. Even beginners can ride over snow, sand, dirt, etc. They float easily above the packed snow trails. There are many places to ride and explore in Alaska's largest city but they can be hard to find and navigate, so these trips are fully guided. Pre-ride, we will discuss bear safety and what we'll do in case of a wildlife encounter. This outing may be your best chance to see moose, bear, porcupine, or even wolves and wolverines near Anchorage. You'll be outfitted with helmets, properly sized bikes, and hydration. Then we will head out to the dirt or, based on time of the season, snow packed trails. This experience is as much about life in the last frontier as it is about fat bikes. Karl is familiar with Alaska's unique culture and what life is like year-round in the 49th stat
Other things to note
Anyone not comfortable biking, we can always schedule a hike in the mountains! Message me for custom options for your group.

I'm an avid cyclist, outdoors enthusiast, and participate in all the Alaskan things. I've worked in Alaska's Chugach National Forest as a wildlife biologist and competed in Alaska's longest mountain bike race (5 times!). Additionally, I'm the world's first fat bike guide and longest serving bike guide in the state.
Where you'll be
There are lots of options for riding and hiking in Anchorage. Dirt (or packed snow in the winter), hiking in the mountains, or biking the beach near downtown Anchorage. In the summer, we ride along salmon spawning streams and through dense Alaskan forests. Fat-bikes are the perfect machines for exploring this varied terrain, and even novice riders can navigate over loose sand, snow, or dirt trails.

This is a great bike ride to go on. The bike’s are easy to use with a lot of snow on the ground. Karl is great too. He is very kind and very informative. This is a great tour to not only learn about biking, but also history on the area. Highly recommend

This was truly an amazing experience. It’s 100% worth the value and Karl is a great story teller of the area! The bikes were lovely and the scenery was just unparalleled. He gives you safety tips in case you run into wildlife and he makes the experience so enjoyable. Would highly recommend and I want to do it in the summer too!

The tour was super interesting not just because of Karl's experise but also because of the beautiful places we got to visit. We weren't too athletic but thankfully Karl took rest stops! This was our first time fat tire biking, and it was unforgettable.

We paid for a 3hr bike ride, but we only got a 2hr bike ride. I wanted to support local as I am also an Alaska but was really disappointed with this tour. When I messaged the tour guide about cutting the tour short he stated that normally his guests are not in as good of shape, and that he normally ends his tours early, but that Airbnb makes him round up to the hour. I think honesty is important.
