What you'll do

We will start our day with introductions and a Great coffee (or tea if that's your preference). I will introduce you to all the materials available to us in my studio. These range from local glass tiles, to imported hand made Italian, Mexican and Chinese glass, to marble, stone, crystals and found objects. We will look at examples of these materials and how to cut and use them. If you have any specific designs in mind we will look at the viability for these of I will guide you in the choice of your creation for the day. With beautiful background music, and surrounded by amazing views of mountains and the ocean, we will spend the morning building on our designs, practicing the use of the tools and materials and exploring methods of beginning our mosaic journey. We will break for lunch and visit the local village of Kalk Bay where you'll have your choice of the local cuisine. We are famous for fresh sea food, mussels, vegetarian, or what ever takes your fancy. For the afternoon we will return to the studio and immerse ourselves in the wonderful experience of building our mosaics. This will take us to the end of the working day after which you will own your wonderful creation.

Mel

I am an experienced teacher and artist. I'm absolutely passionate about mosaic art in particular. I've studied, exhibited and sold my work world wide and hold classes in Mosaic Art in my studio which is housed in the lower level of my home. I love the area I live in and spend a lot of time exploring and enjoying my environment. I'm on the doorstep of some of the best beaches, restaurants, coffee venues and mountain walks in the world. I know this to be true because I've traveled extensively and it's always thrilling to come home.

What's included

Food
I provide coffee and tea and pastries in the studio while we work. I make top class espresso and also cool sparkling water.

Where you'll be

You will of course be spending time in my personal studio. We will visit the local village of Kalk Bay where you will experience this amazing place through the eyes and experience of a 'local'. Best coffee, incredible tidal pool to dive into, and some of the finest shopping if that interests you. If you have time we can stroll on our fine beach and/or visit Mineral World, which is only 10 minutes away. A wonderland of natural stones and crystals.
