What you'll do
Many people were surprised when The Guardian put this place in the top 5 best natural swimming spots in Italy. From swimming holes similar to the tropical Australian National Parks like Kakadu and Litchfield, and amazing cliffs that many rock climbers dream about, to characteristic Mediterranean environments and charming villages, this place has it all and your experience will be one to remember. Surrounded by the mountains and overlooking the sea, we will start our hike in one of the many charming villages that make this area a very special one. Making our way up, we will arrive at the waterfalls where the ruins all around us are a direct testament to past times when people lived and worked in these places. Having enjoyed the beautiful waterfalls, we will arrive at a nice village and have some time to enjoy the slow pace of life and stunning street art (and coffee!). From here, we will walk through the forest on an ancient path once used for trades. There will be lots of lookouts all along the way so we will have plenty of time to snap photos and have some well-deserved rest just before arriving in another beautiful village where the view over the valley and the sea is simply gorgeous. Here, we will sample locally produced food. We then walk down to the ruins of an ancient walled village to get back to the starting point and go for a well-deserved swim in the river.
I was born and raised in Tuscany. After graduating in Sport Science and working in the field for many years, I then went travelling and lived abroad. On returning to Italy, I decided to follow my passion for nature and sports. As a fully qualified outdoor guide, I lead both hiking and mountain biking tours in Tuscany and surrounds. I am also the founder of Explore Tuscany (www.exploretuscany.net), which offers visitors to Tuscany fully guided experiences around some of the best unknown gems in this beautiful part of the world. True off the beaten tracks experiences for those people who like exploring a new area from a different point of view.

Where you'll be
The area where the hike takes place is stunning so there will be many chances to stop and snap some photos. Two of the best rest points are beautiful and charming Italian villages where time seems to have stopped in the past. We will enjoy walking through narrow lanes decorated with amazing local art and we will be surrounded by incredible nature - not to mention the beautiful views overlooking the sea and the coast, away from the crowds.
