What you'll do
We'll meet at Wakodahatchee Wetlands for a morning or late afternoon tour for a couple of hours of great birding at one of south Florida's best birding hotspots and is a part of the Great Florida Birding Trail. This is an easy location, perfect for beginner to experienced birders with boardwalk running throughout freshwater marsh, cabbage palm hammocks and cypress swamp habitat. We will stroll along the 0.5mile boardwalk at a slow pace and listen and look for whatever birds we find in a couple of hours. I will begin with a short crash course in birding and will educate you along the way with fun facts about the species we encounter and teach you fun ways to remember songs and calls, making birding fun especially for the beginner birdwatcher! These sites serve as the feeding, breeding or wintering grounds for many types of birds during fall, winter and spring, which include ducks, herons, egrets, storks, gallinules, rails, blackbirds, buntings, raptors, warblers, cormorants and anhingas. We will also enjoy other wildlife we may encounter, which have included freshwater turtles, alligators, river otters, marsh rabbits and bobcat.

I studied Wildlife Biology at The University of Vermont and my favorite class was Ornithology, which included a trip to FL whereupon I fell in love with birding. I acquired my Master's degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison studying the impact of communication towers to migratory birds. My passion for birding really took off after finding fallen birds under towers and I truly learned to appreciate the great feat of migration, inspiring me to find them flitting about alive and well! In 2013, I started guiding for Ventures Birding Tours and lead trips in FL, NC, TX and Trinidad & Tobago.
