What you'll do

We will be spending 4 to 5 hours exploring and photographing along trails in and around Capital Reef National Park. While exploring these stunningly beautiful and off the beaten path locations, I will share with you photographic tips and techniques which I have gained over 25 years teaching photography and photographing in Southern Utah’s red rock country. We will choose a hike from 4 different trails in order to take advantage of the light, the time of day and weather conditions. The hikes will be easy to moderate and approximately 2 to 3 miles in length. We will stop at various locations along our route to review and critique the images that you have taken and discuss techniques for photographing the landscape. Our goal will be to help you improve your photography and compositional skills while exploring an overwhelmingly beautiful natural environment. Guests are welcome to bring any type of digital or film camera they can comfortably carry for 2-3 miles of hiking. Water and snacks will be provided.

Steve

I have been photographing and exploring the American South West for over 20 years and teaching photography at the college level for over 25 years. My personal work revolves around the natural world. My photographs have been exhibited both nationally and internationally. Nothing brings me more joy than finding a new place to explore in the red rock country of Southern Utah. I love to share these explorations with others who are eager to photograph new and exciting places off the beaten path. I have received many awards and citations for my photographs and for my teaching career in photography.
