What you'll do
I would love to share the experience of running through this beautiful, centuries old town with anyone who enjoys being active. This would be and ideal outing, right at the start of your stay in Stellenbosch, to get a quick overview of the town and it’s many attractions before starting to explore it from the following day on your own pace. View what there is to offer and then revisit later to enjoy what all the spots have to offer. We will start at the Danie Craven Rugby fields and head in a Southerly direction along the Eerste River at a pace that is comfortable for the group (anywhere between 5:30 and 7:30 min/km). The total 6 to 8km route shouldn’t take longer than an hour. From here we will cover a route that circumvents and criss-crosses the centre of town to include the famous Dorp-, Church-, Van Riebeeck-, Plein-, Victoria-, Jonkershoek streets and Die Laan (the avenue). Along the way you will collect mental notes of the town’s best coffee shops, bakeries, restaurants, pubs, ice cream parlours, shops and (of course) wine bars. If you didn’t arrive in town with one, then you will definitely go to bed that night with a full itinerary in your mind for the following day.
I have been running the streets of Stellenbosch and the surrounding mountains for over 15 years. My daily commute to work and back is usually on foot, spanning the length of my beautiful town. I am also a new ultra-runner, focusing more on the off-road side to my sport although I love doing regular urban ‘jaunts’ to soak in the winelands tourist town vibe. It makes my daily life feel like I’m a permanent tourist in a foreign country. I love running and it’s ability to introduce me to new avenues in my familiar world. Every time I run Stellenbosch’s streets I notice something new. What a place!

Where you'll be
The town’s natural beauty, oak-lined streets and Eerste river hiking trail. A first-hand overview of the best cullinary and ‘refreshment’ spots in town. I can give my thumbs up or down for each depending on your preference. We will cover a good couple of strides across the university’s famous ‘red plain’, which is surrounded by centuries-old faculty buildings. The sought-after residential suburb, Mostertsdrift. The most scenic historic landmarks.

You’ll need to take a picture of yourself that matches the photo on your ID. This is so Airbnb can confirm who’s actually going on the experience. You’ll only have to do this once.
The group will determine the pace. A lot of the running will be on sidewalks with a number of road-crossings, so care should be taken with regards to focusing on the surroundings and the terrain.
