What you'll do

It will be a 2-and-half-hour cooking class, hosted out of my kitchen inside a Victorian mansion in Corning, NY. I will teach my guests, how to prepare the ingredients for making fillings for wontons, wrapping them up in 4 different ways, cooking them differently, and finally serving the wontons in soup, appetizer, main dish as well as dessert. You will have detailed notes that I prepared for you on the various ways of wrapping and cooking of wontons. You will have hands-on practice, and can easily take home what you learned from this cooking class. A skill that you can treat yourselves a delicious and healthy homemade multi-course wonton meal for many years to come!

In the last half hour, you will enjoy the wontons that we make and cook together in our beautiful stately dinning room inside a historical mansion. I will answer questions on wonton, wine pairing, Chinese food culture, Chinese art in the dining room, as well as architecture, original owner, and history of the mansion.

Only private group booking is available at this point. Please contact host for private group booking.

Other things to note
Please let me know if you have any food allergy or special dietary requirement before booking. The wonton wrapper is made of wheat with wheat gluten. The wonton filling is made of pork, shrim

Growing up in Shanghai, China, I learned making "wonton", around the family from a young age. I have been making it for over 30 years now. Wonton is a southern Chinese tradition food that has been well loved at so many special occasions and in so many different ways. I like to share my love of wonton with others, so that they will make an impressive multi-course wonton meal, serving it as appetizer, soup, main dish and a dessert. You will enjoy the authentic wonton as much as I do when it is done right, the taste buds in your mouth waking up to a perfect balance of flavor and texture. Making wonton with family and friends is sharing of joy, fun and therapeutic. This Airbnb experience, combining edutainment and boutique dining in one, provides a truly one-of-kind enjoyable time for all.

This was an amazing experience, Frances and her husband have a lot of tips and tricks for making wontons. Besides the place is just amazing, they have a very beautiful home and they make you feel welcome. We went a day before our anniversary and Frances made it so special for us.

This experience was so special and unique and I’m so grateful frances and her husband opened their home to teach us how to make these amazing wontons. We felt welcome from the moment we rang the doorbell to the moment we exited their home. Everything was clearly explained and thoughtfully prepared and we had a blast learning how to do each of the folds. The conversation and the company were both warm and fun. They are an adorable and hilarious couple and we enjoyed spending our time with them. By the end of the evening we left feeling confident in our abilities, educated on the culture and dishes, with full tummies and even came away with to go boxes, specific recipes and instructions and even with certificates! We are very much looking forward to another visit soon and hoping to learn more dishes and hopefully book their air bnb space in their absolutely stunning and gorgeous home. If you come to corning and you don’t book this experience - I assure you...you are missing out!

This is the REAL DEAL! She knows everything about making Wontons & her husband is the sous chef. Her cultural background & culinary expertise are outstanding. If that isn't enough, your venue is a Victorian mansion that they are renovating. We were served the fruits of our labor in the formal dining room. Enough said! Put it on your to do list!

We rented an Airbnb for the week and decided to try a few of the recommended activities in Corning. We didn’t go wrong with this choice. Frances and her husband were both very friendly and welcoming. Her knowledge of culture and cooking can’t be topped. The mansion in which they live and host this activity is stunning. I wish I had known prior that they offer a 4 bedroom attic Airbnb with every special touch possible. The tour of the home and hearing some of its history was also a great experience. The hands on experience of making wontons is quite unique, especially in such a warm atmosphere. Frances is an excellent teacher and very patient. She definitely loves sharing her talents with others. The four course wonton meal was delicious. Once done with preparing the wontons, you retreat to the gorgeous dining room to relax while the wontons cook. Frances also shares her recipes and provides a certificate of completion in wonton making. I can’t say I knew what to expect from this activity, but I can say it’s one of the most enjoyable of the week. If in the Corning area, make sure to try this class. You will not find anything like it anywhere else. Definitely a hidden gem.

My wonton class with Frances and her sous chef husband was so much fun! Frances explained everything very well and the hands on experience is so valuable. I plan on making these here at home. It was interesting to hear about Frances' childhood and making these flavorful wontons with her mother when she was young. We made them in a number of ways and even made desert ones! It was also nice to hear about the history of the beautiful Victorian home they have. Well done and I highly refcommend this class!
