What you'll do

Every city has a 'dark' side, and one as old as Rome is no different. We have ghosts, gruesome executions, and murders, and they can be strangely fascinating. Come along for an after-dark stroll to explore some of these tales of Rome.
We begin in one of Rome's liveliest squares, now full of bars and restaurants. However, it was once a place of execution, and reminders of this still stand - hear the tale of Giordano Bruno, one of Italy's greatest minds who got on the wrong side of the Church.
Then we take a stroll through the backstreets, arriving at one of the oldest bridges, which is haunted by one of Rome's most infamous characters.
Strolling down a medieval street, we come to a unique church, decorated with skulls, and home to a mysterious order of monks with a rather macabre task. From here, we reach the site of one of the world's most notorious historical prisons, then pass the tomb of the notorious Borgia Pope, before arriving at the home of an infamous poisoner.
Soon, we reach Castel Sant'Angelo, where we talk about one of Rome's most famous executions, which the city's people didn't want - the Cenci family.
Altogether, it's a fascinating alternative look at Roman history.
Other things to note
It's an easy walk, only lasting 2 hours maximum. We end close to some nice bars and restaurants, so I can show you to them if you like at the end.

I have lived in Rome for seven years, working as a tour guide, and this city has came to be my home. Every street and every corner is filled with wonderful people, architecture, and history. Originally from the north of England, I studied a Masters in Ancient History at the University of Wales, before moving to Rome to put the knowledge to use. At times I've also lived in Florence and New York City (a little different to Rome, I know!), but Rome will always be my love, and I want to help others love it just as I do. I aim to entertain as well as teach you some of the history and secrets.

I had a great time on this tour. Benjamin had a great level of insight into the dark side of the history of Rome. It was really wonderful to hear the interesting and gruesome stories that you would never know about if going on a regular tour of the city! I would highly recommend and I’ll be sharing the stories learnt with everyone I know!

What a great start for my trip to Rome! Benjamin gave all the information I needed before we were to meet. The whole tour was easy going and really fun. He had all the answers to any follow up question I had. The tour really gives information about interesting historic people who are connected to buildings/locations in Rome. Benjamin’s dark humor made it way more fun and durable to listen to stories about executions, murder, torture and other unfortunate happenings in Rome. I definitely recommend everyone doing this tour. Even people from Rome ended up listening to Benjamin in the background because the information was so interesting, shocking, and exciting too. Thank you so much for this Benjamin!
