Archaeologist for a day

Rome, Italy

Experience hosted by Gianfranco

5.5 hours
Includes food, drinks, equipment
Up to 8 people
Hosted in Italian, English, Chinese (Simplified)

What you'll do

We will go to the Villa of the Colonnacce, an important archaeological site just at the gates of Rome, to discover how the professional archaeologist works. Here we will begin with a guided tour of the site where we will learn about the daily life of the Romans to then instruct ourselves on the techniques used for intervention, in order to be prepared for the excavating experience. After a first digging session, we will take a break with a great homemade lunch, Italian style, enjoying the beautiful countryside scenery. We will then get back to work with a second digging session looking forward for the find of the day!
Other things to note
We advise comfortable clothing suitable for digging and trekking shoes or preferably safety boots (steel-toe boots).

Very special experience - you actually go behind the scenes of the archaelogical work and get a unique opportunity to "get you hands dirty" uncovering another little piece of ancient history. Our guide was very knowledgable and answered many questions we had about how archaelogy works, techniques etc This is very meditative work and dont expect treasures to be found but at the end of the day the real treasure is our new way to see things - connecting us with romans and their life in much more personal way. You also get new lens that will make you much more excited to see roman things in museums from now on. Strongly recommend!

Treat yourself to a childhood dream! It’s is a fun and exciting way to spend a day just out of Roma. Claudio is a very passionate archeologist who makes the dig fun and interesting. It’s hard work but it’s fun. We found mosaic tiles, pottery and other cool things. Lunch is also a nice touch as is the coffee and biscuits! I would recommend this experience 100%

Once in a life time experience, this is the best experience out of another workshop and 2 tours that we did in Rome! Wouldn’t be able to do it elsewhere!
