What you'll do
Join me for a unique experience in "the belly of Toulouse" - the Marché Victor Hugo, Toulouse's largest covered market! You'll soon be eating your way through market staples like chocolatines (NOT pain au chocolate!), traditional baguettes, the only farm-to-counter foie gras in the market, cheese from a MOF fromager-affineur (and learning what those words mean!), some of the best charcuterie in Toulouse, and more. Some items we'll taste immediately, but others go into my basket for our final destination: a specially-reserved "tonneau" at a wine seller in the market, where we'll pair our finds with local wines made from obscure grape varieties. We finish on a sweet note with some locally-produced chocolates. No need for lunch afterwards! Along the way, you’ll learn about food and market history, get tips for finding the best products, cultural lessons (French toasting etiquette, anyone?), and context for what you’re tasting. When it's over, you'll get an email listing where we went and what we tasted, as well as any special recommendations you asked for.
I'm Jessica, an American living in Toulouse. I’ve called "La Ville Rose" my home since 2017 and I’ve spent that time exploring all of its delicious nooks and crannies. I’m a former cheesemonger, certified French Wine Scholar™, and French food obsessive. I founded a company - Taste of Toulouse - to lead food tours, as well as host wine & cheese tasting events. My goal is to help make French food and culture less intimidating and share my love of Toulouse and its amazing local businesses. I LOVE helping people get comfortable shopping at markets, learn about what they like, discover the huge role that food plays in everyday French life - and have a great time doing it!
Larger tastings of different cheeses, charcuterie products, locally-produced foie gras, and baguette, as well as tastings of…
At least 2 local wines (one white, one red). Non-alcoholic alternatives available with advance notice.

Where you'll be
We'll visit at least 5 (usually more) small businesses and artisans located in or just outside the Marché Victor Hugo. They have all been rigorously tested and approved (tough job!), not only for quality and taste - but also for their knowledge, friendliness, and customer service. We only visit the best! I have special arrangements with many of them to reserve or let us taste specific items, talk with an owner, or reserve our spot.
