What you'll do

Visitors to the sanctuary get to meet all of the animals. We take a walk through their habitats and talk about where they came from, what hardships they have faced and how they have overcome them. Some of the animals get snacks during the tour, other animals prefer to get pets instead, while others might prefer a different activity.

During the tour we meet and interact with pigs, chickens, ducks, goats, special needs animals and sometimes the sanctuary dogs.

We visit the rescued hens and turkeys who love to flock around your feet and ask for their favorite treats.

Next are the big pigs, Lucy, Ethel and Josie. They are 500lbs of curiosity and love. Ethel will even give you about kisses and many of the pigs like belly scratches.

Our goats greet visitors by jumping on the gate to say hello. They are very curious to meet you and tug on all your zippers and buttons.

Finally we meet our special needs pigs Fiona and Penelope who also love getting treats.
Other things to note
Wear appropriate shoes and clothing. Boots or waterproof shoes are recommended. During the summer sneakers are good too. Please do not wear high heels or clothes you would hate to get dirty.

I have been working in animal welfare and research for over 10 years. In 2017 I left my career as a college science instructor to cofound a farm animal rescue which came to be known as Heartwood Haven. We have rescued over 500 farm animals ranging from chickens to goats to pigs and even special needs animals. All animals here are rescued and living their best lives.

My family went to Heartwood Haven on a pre-Thanksgiving visit. The farm was very clean and the animals obviously well cared for. We enjoyed learning about the animals there and others they have cared for from Kate. It is obviously a labor of love for Kate and her wife. Thank you for the experience and education!

This is the best sanctuary tour in the greater Seattle and surrounding areas. Heartwood Haven is truly a place of inspiration of what impact an individual can make in the lives of animals in need. We have watched this place grow and expand over the recent years, taking in more lives in need, and never lose touch with the cause and mission, while educating others. We 💕Heartwood Haven!

Kate gave me and five friends a lovely tour of the Heartwood Haven farm animal sanctuary this morning. You can really get up close and personal with some of the residents like the ducks, pigs, and turkeys. Kate let us throw almost whole chunks of pumpkin in for the pigs to eat and they just crunch through the squash like a human eating an apple! I also found the turkeys so amusing with the males trying to woo us with their feathers. While it's heartbreaking to learn the backstories of some of the animals, at HH you can see they're getting to live their best lives. One tip: Don't be shy about layering up if it's going to be cold out!
