What you'll do

Recommended by Gothamist as one of “The Best Things To Do In NYC,” Hi Artist events have been featured in Nonsense NYC, Do NYC, idk tonight, The Dance Enthusiast, and more. A metal door in the back of the bar leads to a speakeasy loft theater, transporting guests to another world for an evening of beautiful dance performance and carefully crafted stories. Featuring a mix between an intimate dance performance and a lively gathering, each expertly curated show includes five short acts with a diverse sampling of the best artists New York City has to offer. Due to the intimacy of the space, guests see the artists' every move and emotion. As the evening’s emcee, I personally introduce each act, sharing the stories behind the works you’ll be seeing and interesting background info about the artists on the program. After the show ends, our artists join the audience for drinks and conversation, giving guests the chance to meet and mingle with the performers after the show. In a city of theaters where performers retreat backstage and the 4th wall remains fully intact, our format provides audiences with a new and fresh way to experience dance, getting to know the artists both as performers and as people. Our November 13th VENUS event is an all female program, featuring live music by Sofar Sounds musician Hallie Spoor. Instagram: @HiArtist_NYC Web: www.hi-artist.net

Elizabeth

Hi! I’m Elizabeth, a local dancer, producer, and entrepreneur. I’ve spent my whole life dancing—across the USA, in Argentina, France and beyond—and I love creating unique cultural experiences involving dance. The Big Apple is home to a talented, vibrant dance community that is very hard to access if you aren’t a dancer yourself. So my friend Xenia and I built Hi Artist, an event company creating pop-up contemporary dance experiences that are social, up-close, and personal. Xenia is a freelance dancer who performs with a slew of great local companies. We collectively have thirteen years of experience in the New York City dance scene, and thus access to the best dancers out there. Many of our dancers perform in some of the best shows in the city (like “Sleep No More”) and with some of the best companies (like Mark Morris Dance Group).

Where you'll be

Housed in a former carriage house referred to by Time Out New York as the “new nerve center” of Brooklyn’s brew scene, 61 Local is a sprawling bar that celebrates the neighborhood community through delicious locally sourced food, wine, and craft beer. We’ll spend our evening in two sections of this beautiful space: the upstairs private loft and the downstairs communal bar. Seating for the performance is general admission.
