What you'll do

You'll explore the hip, Bucktown/Wicker Park neigborhood, via its pizza. Your doughcent will meet you at My Pie, where you'll get your official lanyard/badge, then learn about the 10 styles of pizza in Chicago. You'll first try a proper Chicago deep-dish (NOT stuffed) celebrating 50 years in business in 2021, a New York slice, a complex artisan pie and finally, a thin and delicate Roman pie. You'll taste four different styles of pizza in three hours, while meeting some of the owners and other people behind the pies, learning about local history as well.
Other things to note
PLEASE LET US KNOW IF ANYONE IN YOUR PARTY IS VEGETARIAN BEFORE THE DAY OF THE TOUR. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate gluten free guests. Plan for weather, as we do the tours rain or shine.

I'm a 13-time James Beard Award-winner, and former Food Reporter at ABC 7 Chicago. I've been covering food in Chicago since '95, and am author of "Pizza City USA: 101 Reasons Why Chicago Is America's Greatest Pizza Town" as well as the forthcoming "Ultimate Chicago Pizza Guide" (Sept. '21). The tours are based on the books, and each tour features four styles of pizza in three hours. Some tours will be led by my team of trained "doughcents," uniquely qualified to talk about Chicago's pizza history. The Sunday tour is typically led by Mike Madgiak, my #1 backup.

Where you'll be

1st stop is My Pi, which turns 50 in 2021. They make one of the best deep-dish pizzas in town. Then we'll stroll down Damen Ave., learning more about Bucktown. Our second stop takes us to Paulie Gee's for a giant, foldable NYC-style slice. After a walk through Wicker Park, we'll stop at Craft, for a one-of-a-kind artisan pie with market-driven produce. Finally, we walk down Division St. to Pizza Metro for a few classic Roman slices.

Great experience and fantastic pizza. It was fun walking through Chicago and learning more about our great city. Our guide Mike was entertaining and friendly, and he really knew his stuff. All four pizza venues were delicious and different. Highly recommend.

We had a great time. Mike, our doughcent was very engaging and knowledgeable. The group was a nice size and all of the pizza was delicious. My only issue was the amount of pizza. I was pretty full by the third restaurant and completely stuffed by the fourth which turned out to have my favorite pizza of the day. Bring a huge appetite for maximum enjoyment.
