What you'll do

Learn about the Bees
With our knowledge and experience, we will provide you with initial Do's and Don'ts when working with the bees and their family.

Suit up!
We will provide the necessary Bee Suit's and gloves, please wear appropriate clothing it can get warm in these suits, also no open-toed shoes!

Just getting comfortable
Some of our guests are a little apprehensive, so we take the time to just let you get comfortable being around the Bees.

Light the smoker and jump on in!
This is where we get to see all of the workings of the Colony. We will explain all that is going on and if we are lucky we will spot the queen!

Pictures with your new friends!
We will provide plenty of opportunities for you to get up close and personal with your new family, and selfies are always required!

Revel in the surrealism
Take a moment and be proud of what you have learned, and just how close you have become to one of nature's true miracles.

This unique hands-on experience is the best way to learn about the importance of honeybees! We will suit up and open up the hive to see how bees live, work, and produce honey. You will definitely leave with greater knowledge and understanding of our pollinator friends and the inner workings of a honeybee colony.
ATTN:
If you have a known allergy to bee, wasp, or yellow jacket venom, sadly you are prohibited from participating in this experience.

I am a co-founder of BayBees Honey which is a family-owned and operated apiary on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. We focus on conservation and education while spreading awareness of the importance of preserving our local pollinators in an effort to help save the Bay Bees! Growing up in Upstate NY fostered my love and appreciation for honeybees since childhood. I have maintained my own hives for 6 years, starting with 8 to now over 50. As a beekeeper, I learn more and more every season, not only through Cornells Master Beekeeping & Penn State online courses but mostly from hands-on experience and mentorships from well-versed retired commercial pollinators. I truly believe everyone can and everyone should become a backyard beekeeper! ALL proceeds from tours, classes, rentals, and donations go directly back into the apiary and the bees, 100%!

We had such a great time learning about and spending time with Lauren and her bees. We felt very safe the entire time. She answered all of our questions! The honey tasting at the end was fun and brought to life some of the info she gave us while visiting the hives.

So glad we booked this adventure just by happening by a Berlin Market. We had a great group with who all interacted together. This was a bday gift from sister. It’s well worth the time to make this an adventure.

What a great experience! Lauren teaches you so much about beekeeping, and lets you get extremely hands-on! It felt very safe, even for someone who is typically averse to spending time around insects that can sting.

What an absolutely incredible experience! Where to start? The owner, Lauren, will steal your heart with her kind, calm, and knowledgeable presence. The grounds are beautiful and will make you beg her to turn it into an overnight AirBnB experience! She puts you at ease right away with her descriptions of the event, the process, and any little precautions to take to protect yourselves and the bees. Meeting the bees and learning about their critical importance to humans and the environment was so fascinating. And she knows that many of us love our pictures/selfies, so she runs the show and takes tons of pictures for us, allowing us to just relax and get lost in marveling these winged creatures. Lauren spent hours answering all our questions as we toured the hives, and she truly wowed with her depth of understanding, compassion, honesty, and humor. As a perfect ending to a perfect day, we all sat around in the chic and cozy netted porch and tasted various kinds of honey, some local and others from afar. She even sells it for such reasonable prices! When friends asked how I liked it, I could only reply with, “it truly could not have been a more amazing experience.” Thank you, Lauren, for all you do for us and the bees!

We had such a great time with Lauren! It was a fun experience that was well planned at a comfortable pace. It was the appropriate length and we enjoyed the variety of honey tastings at the end! Thanks for the opportunity, Lauren!!
