What you'll do

A view of Antwerp through the eyes of a bicycle activist. Let's meet at the beautiful Central Station, here the necessary city bikes are waiting for us (Pick-up and drop-off at another location are optional). We cycle through the city together for 2.5 hours journey. You will see places that we as residents of the city are very proud of, but you also get to see the places where we are really ashamed of. There wille be less attention to the typical tourist highlights, the focus will be on mobility and social life. We like to respond to the specific interests of people in the group and we can adjust the tour on kind request. The route we take will be safe, some urban cycling experience is certainly an advantage. This tour is meant for activists looking for inspiration, city planners or people with a broad interest in urbanity and living together. Our tour ends at an iconic place where you will be offered a refreshing and typical Antwerp drink at our mobile Hangover Bar. Afterwards, you will be accompanied back to the Central Station to bring in the bicycles.

Since 2011 we have been active as cycling activists in Antwerp. We both are graphic designers living in this beautiful city. Cycling is the ideal way to go everywhere smoothly, but also to get to know our city. We know all the hotspots but also all the bad examples of stupid mobility solutions and urban traffic failures.

We booked a private tour with Stijn for our day trip to Antwerp-we'd booked a separate walking tour in the morning with another host and our train was late, and Stijn graciously agreed to push back the start of our ride so we could finish our first tour. Antwerp is a fantastic city and Stijn has great knowledge of beyond its bike culture. We rode about 12 miles or so, both in the city and on its outer ring. The infrastructure for biking is grand, and its mostly flat with a few slight hills. We chose regular bikes but he will provide e-bikes if requested. Much like seeing a city from the water, biking provides a wonderful perspective you would not see on a regular walking tour. Stijn had asked if we had any special interests and I'd explained that my son works in urban development, and he included a lot of information that was especially relevant on Antwerp's history. If you have decent balance, you can do this tour, and you'll be so glad you did. Great way to burn off all that fine Belgian cuisine. Fantastic meeting point right at the mind-boggling Antwerp central station. Thank you Stijn!
