What you'll do

You'll arrive for an experience at my 20 acre natural facility in Escondido, California. You'll get a 30-45 minute tour of our aviaries to see the birds and animals, and have the chance to feed and hold some of the birds, like our toucan and rare black palm cockatoo. We take a short walk up a hill for 5 minute hike and bring a few birds to fly. We will start with the majestic owl, who uses his keen senses to find prey. We teach guests how to use a falconry glove, catch the owl on the glove and watch it fly back to the perch a few times. Next we bring out the gorgeous hawk and watch him swoop from perch to perch and call him to the glove. Hawks are faster predators than owls, moving quickly on the wing. They make for awesome falconry companions, and we will learn about their role with falconers. Finally, we end with the falcon, the fastest animal in the world. Guests will get to feel her awesome power in the glove, and watch as she dives in a simulated hunting demonstration called the lure flight. She ends with a huge reward and will elegantly pose for pictures on visitors' gloves.

I am a falconer and exotic animal trainer who has trained free flying birds all over the world. I have flown birds waist deep in caiman infested waters for a project in the Amazon Rainforest with Waura Tribe and worked for the San Diego Zoo. I have spoken at conferences from Texas to Australia, but my favorite thing to do in the world is spend hours in the field training birds to fly.
