What you'll do

Three are the pillars that define this experience... BREATHTAKING VIEWS, HISTORY AND FIRST CLASS GASTRONOMY

First... PASAIA: One of the most beautiful fishing villages in the Basque Country. Travel back in time and learn about whale hunting (active until XIX century), and get to know the house and the history of the writer Victor Hugo. ¿What made him stay here? ¿Who was the young lady he fell in love with?

After visiting Pasaia, enjoy the breathtaking views that Jaizkibel Route offers. We will drive you through a route with different stops full of spectacular panoramic views, and will get to Guadalupe Fort. Once there, we will contemplate THE FRENCH BASQUE COAST.

Last but not least... CULINARY HONDARRIBIA. We will immerse ourselves in a gastronomic experience where we will try the national award-winning pintxos and anchovies paired with our Basque White wine: txakoli (a fine Rioja is always a good idea too). We learn about the elaboration process, the origin, and the particularities of each pintxo. I will suggest a menu that starts with vegetables, follows with fish and ends with meat... But the variety is infinite... FEEL FREE TO CHOOSE!

VIEW THE BASQUE COAST - LEARN ITS HISTORY - ENJOY A UNIQUE CULINARY EXPERIENCE

I am Basque, natural from San Sebastian, and I am familiar with the world of cooking since I was born: on the one hand, the Saturdays spent in the family restaurant, and on the other, the countless hours spent in the gastronomic society club... knowledge and passion around Basque Gastronomy are part of me. However, Basque Gastronomy goes beyond The Old Town... and it is also present in fishing villages with such a beauty, tradition and flavor that you can't stop visiting!

I loved this experience and Alvaro is the perfect host. I got to visit several places that I would not have found or thought to go to by myself, and Alvaro brought each place to life for me with stories. Pasaia and Hondarribia are lovely, the views from Fort Guadalupe are amazing, and the pintxos and wine so nice. Alvaro is great company, you will feel you've spent an afternoon with a friend. Highly recommend.

Alvaro is an expert when it comes to the language, location, and lifestyle of the region. From a sightseeing view of the Spanish/French coastline to the shared cider and variety of tapas in the most beautiful part of the old city. This was complemented with the warm stories of a living history told through the integrated experience. I will be back and will definitely stay in touch with Alvaro again.

We actually took this tour with Xabe as opposed to Alvaro as Alvaro was unfortunately unwell. In spite of being ill, Alvaro still made the effort to come and greet us in person at the start of our tour in order to introduce us to his colleague who proved an excellent, friendly and well-informed guide. The tour offers a great opportunity to see some of the smaller towns around San Sebastian, offering picturesque views and something a bit different from the tourist-leaning activities in the city centre. The real highlight of the trip was our guide Xabe, a local guy who shared his perspective on the places we visited, the Basque region in general and Spanish history more broadly. We definitely learned more about this super interesting region from our afternoon with Xabe than our visit to the (still worthwhile) San Telmo Museum. The pintxos at the end of the trip (Xabe's recommendation) were probably the best we had during our stay, and our guide even drove us back to our apartment and gave us his contact details for future visits/tips which was a really nice touch! Great value for money compared to a number of the pricier tours in the city - highly recommend.

The day with Alvaro was great! He went out of his way to share his knowledge of the area and made sure we had the best experience. Yummy food and drinks! Alvaro spent extra time with us and even dropped us off at the end of the night at his favorite gelato place in Gros. Thanks for a great day!
