What you'll do

We meet at the Punta Venado Bike Park near Playa del Carmen. There are close to 30 km of trails to choose from divided in three categories (basic green, blue intermediate and black advanced). The green trail has less roots and rocks, it is the trail with the most flow with some fun berms and jumps (optional) and it has a section where we ride next to the sea. The blue trail is a bit more demanding with more roots, rocks and turns. The black trail is technical, but very doable, in this trail you can put to the test your technical abilities in the mature jungle with the most uneven ground. To cover the entire park it usually takes about 2 hours and thirty minutes at an easy pace. As we ride we can stop for a picture by the Caribbean Sea, perhaps we can spot spider monkeys and other wildlife, we can also cool off in a small, but very well timed cenote (flooded cave). There is not a time limit at the park so we can ride and enjoy for as long as we wish. The setting of the Park is in very lush jungle with mostly shade, but we would still have to start early before it gets too humid. After our ride, we can go for some delicious tacos near the park or a beer at a near by beach club.
Other things to note
The type of bikes available may vary. At the park there areTrek bikes (hardtails) and Giant Stance full suspension bikes. There are no bikes for children, this experience is best suited for people 15 years and older.

Through my experience as a tour guide over the past 15 years and as a nature lover, I have developed a strong enthusiasm for mountain biking. Although there are no mountains here in the Yucatan peninsula, the geological limestone formations and landscapes of the area allow for some diverse and exhilarating trails to suit most types of cross country mountain biking. During my free time, my friends and I usually ride and train for the local events in a beautiful bike park with very lush jungle next to the Caribbean sea about an hour away from Tulum.

Where you'll be

Punta Venado Bike Park situated in the jungle next to the Caribbean Sea about 50 minutes north of Tulum and 15 minutes south of Playa del Carmen. In Punta Venado there is a nice beach club we can visit for a snack and a drink. Nearby there is a taqueria worth a visit if we get hungry.

I love mountain biking and went to Riviera Maya with non-cyclists. Miguel's tour made it possible for me to go alone and feel safe. He went out of his way to schedule me on late notice. I rode with his friends who were very friendly, knew the trail well, great riders and invested in making sure I had a great experience. The trail was rocky in some sections and challenging. Not a "go fast trail" but certainly enjoyable. Bring bug spray!!! Definitely would recommend. If I'm in the same area again, I will contact them to do some more riding.

We had a great time mountain biking with Miguel. He knew the trail incredibly well and guided is at our level. The trail is really well maintained and interesting. Wear bug spray! The mosquitos were terrible in the jungle, but it was awesome to ride along the beach and in the jungle. Level was easy to advanced (fun jumps and berms). Great views. Miguel brought us homemade fruit/energy salad for us afterward and then he took us to a small beach club that had food, views, and beer. One special note: I left my long sleeve in Miguel's bike bag (he carried what we needed so we wouldn't have to), and he went to great efforts to get out back to me. If you like to mountain bike, I highly recommend! Miguel is also a local guide and had great insight and stories. Do this unique experience!
