What you'll do

How would you like to learn to play the "Congas in just 15 minutes"? I'm excited to share this new approach to learning for almost anyone of any age. Known as "Tumbao", "Marcha" or "Rhythm Pattern", you can learn to play this basic Conga pattern used in most popular music today in just 15 minutes.

In this two-hour audience participation show, I take you through the history of how the Conga drums have influenced American Music (8 minutes), followed by the "15 minute Conga" lesson, and 60 to 70 minute audience play along to rhythms such as Jazz, Rock, Latin, Soul, Funk, R&B and Pop. We end the lesson with "Oh When The Saints Come Marching In".

During the show, I'll also play several Conga Rhythyms from my recently published book to hopefully enlighten the audience to the history of this instrument. Participants will take home a printed copy free of charge of the music they just learned, to practice at home.

No experience needed. Learn to play the most popular rhythm patterns and learn to READ THE NOTES "GUARANTEED". Play along for an experience like no other. This is an audience participation show.

After high school, I studied percussion under Frank Gagliardi at University Nevada Las Vegas.
I took conga lessons from Rogelio Darias, percussionist, and piano at the Community College under Cynthia Harris Ryan. I studied the Berklee College of Music Course, Music Theory and Keyboard under Paul Schmeling at Berklee College of Music.

My life took a surprising turn when I became interested in business. At age 21, I became a General Contractor. After thirty-eight years in construction, I gave it all up to follow my dream of playing music.

I converted my office into a music studio and have been teaching ever since.

Manny is an excellent host, super friendly and welcoming. He is very knowledgeable of music and gives a fun lesson to those interested in getting familiar with the Congas. We loved hearing his interesting stories and learning about the history of the music too. Manny even waited with us until our Uber driver arrived :))

It was only just me and graciously Manny was happy to take the class. Immediately welcoming it was his initial conversational launch into the history of music and the congas which provided not only the respect that this awesome instrument deserves but also illustrated Manny’s passion for what he does. If you’ve ever clapped along to a tune and or marvelled at talented percussionists - start here. You’ll learn a new skill, meet and get to know a professional musician whilst at the same time experiencing a non yoga based form of meditation. Go see Manny. 2 hours super well invested. Congastic! This was such a fun and great experience. Manny is so kind and personable and really teaches the class in a way that makes it easy to pick up the basics. He has a wealth of knowledge in all genres of music! The modern and legendary music he uses to teach the Conga basics REALLY make this a great night out experience.
