What you'll do

We'll meet in the heart of Nuremberg's old town from where we start an expedition of the Franconian art of brewing and the most lovely pubs and bars. Depending on your (beer) preferences we'll customize the program mid-tour and create an individual, informative and light & easy trip away from the stereotype tourist spots. To get things started and prevent dying from thirst I'll bring the first beer.

I was born and raised in Nuremberg and spent most of my life here. Quite some hours herof I spent in the local night life, even as a part time job. As a passionate drinker and enjoyer of beer, especially the world renowned Franconian beers, I have collected quite some knowledge and experience. I'd love to share these with travellers from all over the world and introduce them to the history - and of course to the taste - of these little pieces of hoppy art.

Where you'll be

Depending on season, day and time we'll visit a few pubs and bars which focus on Franconian beer, located in the heart of Nuremberg's old town. The usual starting point is in front of the renowned St. Lorenz Church. We then move between the Artisan's Yard (Handwerkerhof), castle and White Tower (Weißer Turm).

We were glad we took the tour. Joe gave a lot of insight on the local beer scene. We were able to sample beers that we would not have otherwise had. Joe is friendly and helpful and comes across as a socially responsible person - we noticed his small gestures for the less fortunate- like leaving the empty beer bottles with pfand (German term for Deposits) to be picked up by the needy or making a small contribution to a street musician. He also made some really nice recommendations for places to see and vegetarian restaurants to visit.

Joe's beer hike gave us what we were looking for - getting an introduction to Nuremberg through the eyes of a local. And fun too. Great beer of course - but particularly enjoyable given Joe's friendliness and humour. It worked really well with our two (grown up) children - a good "experience" for parents and "kids" alike . We will definitely contact Joe if we're back in Nuremberg.
