What you'll do

Welcome to our home, a charming 1914 red brick villa in Central Pukekohe. I will be cooking you a delicious five course menu in my registered kitchen. You will be greeted and seated by my partner, Robin (if he's around and may join you at the table) and I, in my quirky dining room which sports artwork from travels and charity shop rummages. You can bring any beverage (alcoholic or non alcoholic) of your choice. You can relax and enjoy each other's company while I cook your food. You can take a break and play a game of darts or take a stroll in our gorgeous front lawn or meet our chickens in the backyard. There will be a lot of eating and chatting in an intimate setting. Your meal will finish with tea or coffee.

Pukekohe is a 45-50 min drive from the city centre or a 1 hr 10 min train ride from the city centre (Britomart) with 1 train change at Papakura.
The menu will be a surprise so if there are any dietary preferences or allergies please let me know.
There are 6 or 7 steps to climb at the entrance.

I'm Archana, a chef with 16 years of experience cooking in professional kitchens in India and New Zealand. I am trained in European cooking and have had the opportunity to learn other cuisines, including Mediterranean and Asian. The journey has been somewhat eclectic, ranging from 5 star hotels in India, to a 3 hatted restaurant in New Zealand, and other fine-dining establishments in between. Over the years I have realized that sharing my love for food is most important to me and so I wanted to create a personalized dining experience in the warmth of my home, by offering inventive, flavourful menus, using seasonal, local produce with a strong ethos of minimising food waste.

Where you'll be

Pukekohe is a 45-50 min drive from the city centre or a 1 hr 10 min train ride from the city centre (Britomart) with 1 train change at Papakura.
You will be dining in my home which is located on a generous quarter acre section with beech, oak and fruit trees. The interior of my home has some beautiful original Rimu floors and doors with an old axminster carpet throughout. The grounds in particular are reminiscent of another era.

The whole experience was a delight! We were welcomed by Archana and her partner into a beautiful period property. The food was incredible, with so many exciting and often new flavours in each course, the more you eat the more you taste how she snuck in all these clever layers of flavour, amazing! In this experience you get a chance to eat high quality food clearly cooked by an experienced chef, but in a comfortable setting with a chance to have insights into the chef's passion and ethos as well. We had such a great time meeting the other guests too, and the whole experience was hosted so well. This experience is a must in the Auckland area and so worth the journey. Thank you.

I enjoyed the meal immensely! It was a fine-dining experience in the chef's home, a wonderful and unique experience. I also enjoyed very much the conversation with Archana's partner and guests throughout the meal. The food was incredible. Archana thoughtfully explained each course when she brought them out. Each course came with an interesting story about how she sourced (or made) the ingredients or the inspiration behind the dish. I wish I had taken notes because every course had amazing layers of flavor and were made of beautiful ingredients. If I had taken notes I could better explain the wonderful intricacies of the courses. I was STUFFED by the end of the meal. Definitely recommend! Note that it is about a 45-minute drive from Auckland city (worth the drive). I was looking for unique experiences in Auckland and a personal gourmet meal prepared by a very talented chef exceeded my expectations.

Having a homecooked dinner at chef Archanas in Pukekohe was an experience we will never forget. Totally authentic, generous and delicious. Being the very first airbnb guests and having the famous New Zealand #whitebait for the first time just added on (so good although it looks like shredded spagetti with tiny eyes.)

Archana and her husband Westerberg loveliest of hosts. Archana cooked a symphony of local dishes with a personal Indian touch and she sure knows how to cook. The flavours, textures and combinations were delicious. It is a 30 min drive from Auckland but so worth it. The house is an old vicarage and it’s a very sweet dining room where you get to enjoy your meal. Remember to bring your own wine. All in all a wonderful experience.
