About your host

After a decade of teaching history, Danish, and social studies, in 2014 I decided to quit my job and start doing what I've always loved the most—telling stories and sharing my passion for this wonderful city of mine. Though I know every inch of the city, there are still new discoveries every day—and new, curious people to engage with. A vast network allows me to offer access and treats you would…

What we’ll do

I will take you on a walk through the history of those five harsh years. Although Denmark had it easy compared to most of Europe, it still suffered devastating losses and hardship. We'll travel through the conservative Frederiksberg, the artsy…

What else you should know

This will be quite a long walk, but we will take our time and rest when needed. If you are arriving on a bike, please note that the meet-up location and ending point will be almost three kilometers apart.

What I’ll provide

Drinks
Cold or hot drink at our pitstop
Equipment
Umbrellas in case of rain

What to bring

Where you'll be

We'll go to the site of the French school that was destroyed accidentally only weeks before the liberation. We'll see the site of the most important sabotage action of the occupation and the legendary Valencia dance hall that saw violent clashes between Danish east front volunteers and local patriots—a story with a personal twist for me. We'll also see the Gestapo headquarters building and the location where the roundup of Danish Jews was staged.
