Hi! I am Sonja. I am an illustrator and architect who has been up the Eiffel Tower over 800 times and counting! I have been designing and illustrating since I learned to hold a pencil (or a pen, children love pens). I try to see the world differently— not as a panorama of buildings and landmarks, but as a mosaic of memories and sensations. We leave a bit of ourselves everywhere we go, and embracing that can give us a deeper understanding of where we are now.
I love Paris and the feeling that anything is possible here. Hope to see you soon!

Where you'll be
How often do you catch yourself walking down the street not paying the attention to anything - except maybe - maybe - traffic? Getting lost in your thoughts, in your Instagram account, or in your Facebook feed? We all do! This tour is designed to move you from that place to a place of noticing the people and things around you. We will spend our time together in Le Marais!

Sonja is incredibly talented as an artist and illustrator, and she knows how to help others “see” the things around them. As a writer, I was hoping Sonja could show me how to gain visual perspective and map my time in Paris. That’s exactly what she did! She doesn’t put pressure on her guests, but instead ensures a safe environment and freedom to play and experiment.
Seeing her skillful illustrations, created while we were together, inspired me. Now, when I write, I may actually sketch illustrations to go with the text. And will definitely use what Sonja taught me in collages and journals.
This “tour” felt like good friends getting together and discussing life as we drew our maps. Such a delightful way to spend an early evening in Le Marais... and to see it from an artist’s perspective! Don’t miss this chance to make a new friend and give yourself permission to create something fun and pretty that you can take home as a souvenir!

This was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon. I have done some sketching and my husband has done none, but Sonja made the experience interesting and worthwhile for us both. We especially liked that we were "off the beaten track," learning to see and appreciate ordinary things rather than looking yet again at monuments. We ended the afternoon at a café, learning Sonja's approach to drawing these personalized maps of our walk. This time also allowed for good conversation: Sonja was generous in sharing her knowledge of Paris and making suggestions for additional places we might want to visit. We highly recommend joining Sonja for one of her experiences.

This experience was both beautiful and restorative. I went with my daughter and her 12-year old friend and the three of us are thrilled with our maps and with the afternoon we spent with Sonja. Many thanks. I look forward to creating many more maps with what I learned today.

It was a wonderful experience. Sonja is very sweet and teaches everything so kindly. One of the amazing things was that she took me to great places that I've not heard before. I really loved it. I was unsure if I could make it but she tried to inspire me and kept encouraging me while I was drawing. Thanks to her detailed instruction, I could finish all the work successfully.

By far the best tour/experience I have had in Paris! I do not consider myself an artist at all (I just signed up because it sounded fun), but I am so glad I spent these three amazing hours with Sonja on this drawing workshop. Sonja is hilarious and knows so much, and she's also really inspiring - as Sonja says, "life is really a map". As well as having the mental relaxation of drawing, I learnt so much about Paris and its history and architecture, especially since Sonja has a double Masters in Architecture as well as being a professional artist. It sounds so cliche, but I also feel like I learnt alot about myself as well! Strongly recommend!
