What you'll do
You will be guided on a two hour photo session along the hidden beach of Lissadell Estate, the home of Irish revolutionary, Countess Markievicz. Here you and your camera will experience a world of visual delights. You will pass forested areas along side an oyster farm, pristine beaches with tidal pools and long stretches of golden sand, scenic ruins, textured cliffs and waving rushes. Look out at the splendour of Knocknarea with Queen Maeve's grave visible at its summit. Gaze towards Rosses Point, Strandhill, Coney Island and the lonely weather station in the middle of the Drumcliffe Estuary. Then turn to witness the majesty of Benbulben, the king of mountains. As we walk, you are encouraged to snap to your heart's content with guidance on how to best capture the beauty you see. It doesn't matter if you have a digital camera or a smart phone or if you're an expert, novice or beginner. This walk is designed to liberate your ways of seeing. You will have opportunities to shoot close medium and wide angle subjects throughout the walk. Each stage will also feature stories of remarkable history and local Celtic folklore. See, shoot and share a Sligo rarely seen.
I have been clutching a camera since age 6, a love which has brought me to the edges of the Earth including Australia, Japan, Iceland, Hungary, Finland, Germany, Thailand, Singapore, and my own country Canada. My last excursion being to South Dakota roadtripping through ghost towns, abandoned spaces being a passion of mine. I have shot for various organisations like Rotary International (Limavady), Limavady Arts and Cultural Centre and Phantom FM 105.2 (specialising in stage photography). I have a deep love of County Sligo, it offers stunning light, colour and magnificent vistas
Where you'll be
Lissadell Estate features a gorgeous beach known to locals but not featured to tourists. It isn't signposted and is blissfully quiet. The walk along the beach features the best of the Sligo coast and stunning views of the sea, mountains and sky. We will pass by rock pools, bridges, the old teacher's house, and a variety of ruins including the Napoleonic watch tower. After years of returning, I have never run out of things to photograph.
