What you'll do

After your arrival, we'll hike about a mile to our training area where you will be taught the basics of wilderness survival. You will learn how to start a fire, build a shelter, purify drinking water, set basic snares, navigate your way to safety and signal for help. After receiving instruction on these things, you will apply that knowledge by actually building a shelter and practicing all the skills you've learned. While the training is pre-planned, there will be time to answer your questions and let you bring up other survival related training you would like to receive. You will practice teamwork and become more comfortable In a wilderness environment.

I retired from the Marine Corps in 2003 after 22 years of service. I have been a wilderness survival instructor for 34 years and have practiced survival techniques around the world. I have given survival instruction to everyone from Navy SEAL's, Recon Marines and Army Special Forces, to Boy Scouts, 4H clubs and youth groups.
After retiring from the military, I started a survival kit company. Pro Survival Kit Co makes professional survival kits for both the military and the general public as well.

Where you'll be

Your training will take place on over 100 acres of private land. The training will start at our remote cabin area and move further into the woods to apply your new skills. You will experience springs, streams and unspoiled woodlands. There will be no electricity and a rustic outhouse is our bathroom facility.

George is a very knowledgeable person. He gave us great insight on survival tactics. Great tips and tricks on basic survival skills. It was the little things I liked most about this experience. Stuff you wouldn’t even think of to help get you out of a situation.

I got super lucky to find George's Survial Skills course through Airbnb. My 2 teen boys were raised in a lukewarm bubbly beach town in Japan and it's always been my dream to show them how it's done in the great mother nature of America, like part of how I grew up. I initially had planned to take them wild camping with me being the only source of fundamental knowledge, but boy I got very lucky indeed to have changed all plans. George was a no nonsense gentleman with courtesy and abundance of knowledge about how to safely enjoy nature. The highlight for my family was to learn how to find clean and safe water sources from the ground, and how unsafe it is to take in river water. Extremely useful. And no one would want tap water anymore! The fun part was building your own shelter from whatever was available in the mountain. My boys and I were a team who really bonded as a family by this experience. On our excursion , we were joined with a lovely couple from Germany and I took great notice that George kept focusing his attention to every one of us, not discluding the 2 Japanese speaking chatter box teens. Highly recommended. Oh, but do take your best mountain boots.

George really knows his stuff. He is very authentic and you can learn a lot from him. We've watched survival videos online but actually building a shelter and making fire is a different story. It was super funny though! I would totally go for a several-day camp with George
