Welcome to the HOOD!

Morals & Murals: Tales from Our Hood Experience immerses guests into Philadelphia's (aka Philly) Black culture in real time. Think of this one of a kind experience as a "Day in the Life" of a native; hear the good, challenging and inspiring tales of growing up Black in different hoods/ghettos of Philadelphia. While we chat, we will explore a few hoods via public transportation and connect with and capture beautiful murals of Black faces by Black artists while supporting small Black businesses along the way. This experience is perfect for solo travelers, locals and small groups wanting an authentic Philly experience, guests are considering moving to the city for work and school (honest rent prices and areas to consider), and a direct access to a local who can help you plan a full itinerary.

This experience is still operating through the pandemic with additional dates to accommodate the increase of attendees while adhering to the social distance guidelines of the CDC. All guests are required to wear a mask or face shield throughout the entire experience. Once we reach the max number of guests, no additional slots will be added.

Being a third generation Philly resident I lived and breathe this city for over 30 years! Raised in the heart of North Philly before Temple took over, I have seen the beauty of urban living first hand. The eclectic nature of every hood of Philly is truly unique and has been carved via blood, sweat, drug wars and tears of its natives. Philly's overall personality is very raw but few hoods have held on their grittiness post gentrification. I will give you the uncut story of my experiences overcoming many obstacles while on my path to thriving in this one of a kind city.

Chrissy was so kind and amazing. She was super informative and was able to answer every question we had about philly from a black perspective. We loved the art, the shops, getting to know the public trans, the A1 storytelling, & the moments to reflect what we saw and experienced. It was beyond our expectations. The value was wayyy more than we paid! Oh we got pretzels which our experience as well. Way to set off Black History Month.

Chrissy is an excellent guide and story teller! It’s not easy to pull me out on a cold January day, and this experience was well worth it!

My experience and Chrissy were both amazing (I have to make the distinction!). Chrissy is a great, kind, and sweet personality and really made the experience special. I loved getting to know the city through her eyes and based on her personal experiences being from the city. Our time together ran over a little so I felt like I got an extended version of the experience, which was also really nice. This experience is a MUST if you are visiting the city or considering a move to the city as I am. Getting the good, bad, and ugly was exactly what I wanted and what I got.

This is the type of human experience more people need to have. Chrissy immerses guests into the racial and socio-economic tensions found in the rougher neighborhoods surrounding center city while threading together a fascinating tour of street art and murals. At the same time, she shares her life story which punctuates the struggling underclass of Philadelphia.

Chrissy is a friendly and welcoming tour guide! She clearly thought through the whole experience and truly knows about, and cares about, the people and history of this city. She left us thinking about the beauty and stories behind the murals, finding art in overlooked places, and the people, communities, and parts of the city that are ignored. It ended up just being our party and Chrissy, so we were able to consider and think critically about art and these issues and have meaningful conversations together. Would definitely recommend for anyone, from Philly or not, to see what is beyond the typical presented image of Philadelphia.
