What you'll do

Meet your guide in an easy-to-find location(Bell Tower Hotel ) at 18:00, then walk to one of the two most popular food districts of Xi’an. It is an ancient style building complex with a large collection of the most famous local snacks from all over the province! Here we will taste the savory Chinese hamburger - round pita bread stuffed with minced pork, and then visit the only food museum in the same area within the wall.
After a short stroll through a park we will take a quick bus ride to the Muslim quarter, the other food marketplace in a community with a 1300 year history. It’s not only a place of historic interest but the most colorful and bustling area, a real kaleidoscope of local life! The rest of our tour will mainly take place in this humble but richly cultural district!
These 5-6 eateries are scattered around the district, some on main streets and others tucked away in back streets, but they all cook for the locals. While visiting these food stops, you will learn a lot about the local’s lives and the family restaurants that have been making their specialties for generations.
Hotel drop off at the tour end.

I'm a co-host of Lilysun China Tours, and one of the best tour guides in XIan. I've been on this business for almost 10 years. Almost all my customers praised my hard work and service. My other colleague Michael Chang (his email is changlingtao@163.com), also a fantastic tour guide in Xian. Together, we provided the best tour experience to our guests. We specialize in tailor the most authentic local experience to people. This activity is about food.

Where you'll be

You will go inside the Muslim Quarter to enjoy the most authentic local food. Muslim Quarter is rather large, we will not only take you to the crowded part, but also the off-beaten path by riding a Tuk Tuk. It would be an interesting experience to try the Tuk Tuk in those narrow alleys.

Rated 5.0 out of 5 from 6 reviews.

We went on the food tour with Michael, Lily’s colleague. He was absolutely phenomenal. He took us to delicious food spots that we wouldn’t have been able to find on our own, and definitely would have had trouble negotiating since we don’t speak the language. He gave us lots of great information about the food at each of the places, and we were stuffed and very happy after the tour. Michael went above any beyond and helped us book our train tickets. I would definitely recommend this food tour to others!

My sister and I took this tour while visiting Xi’an from San Francisco and LA respectively. We had an amazing tour with Lily’s colleague Michael. We went all over town to very local spots that would have been difficult to navigate as beginner Chinese speakers, and we are typically good at that sort of thing. Very highly recommend this tour if you want to get a feel for the authentic best dishes in the city. We went on a Lost Plate tour in Chengdu and this was far far better and more authentic than that. If you are deciding between those two tours choose this one.

Excellent food tour by Tuk Tuk We thoroughly enjoyed this food tour of Xi'An. We highly recommend this tour and our guide was Lily, and her warm personality and hospitality made us feel like friends to her. The tuk tuk transport added excitement and enabled us to visit more areas without worrying about navigating crowds, or which places to pick. We visited multiple areas of Xi'An, culminating with the Moslem quarter. All of the food was interesting, delicious and plentiful. We loved seeing the colorful venues and Lily's commentary about the food and local life really helped us appreciate Xi'An and the local people even more. Lily speaks excellent English, and communicated in advance to verify our plans, but she was also flexible with timing and making sure our needs were met. Thanks again Lily for this fun and wonderful tour!

Excellent food tour with Michael! My favorite thing I did in Xi'an - this is a very thorough introduction to Xi'an food. I visited a variety of places, from canteens to restaurants to food stalls : this tour crisscrosses central Xi'an to not just get you Xi'an specialty foods, but to seek out the best place for each. I consider myself a fairly independent traveler, but this tour both brought me to places I would never have found on my own and dishes I would never have figured out how to order on my own. Our guide Michael was particularly excellent- enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the different food, helped us understand what we were seeing, and personalized the tour (when we were asking a bunch of questions about different produce, he stopped at a market and got me a few different kinds of fruits I’ve never seen before). If you can, do this tour early in your time in Xi'an - I wanted to go back to everywhere for lunch the next day! Although you will try rice wine, this is primarily a tour for people who love food - it's less alcohol-focused than some. Come hungry!

Michael took us to local restaurants and introduced us to food and traditions that were unfamiliar and new. The tour at the Muslim quarter was unique and colorful. Enjoyed the tour and recommend it to anybody interested in learning about Xi’an
