What you'll do

This tour-Hiking into Alaska's Great, Wild Beauty- is an easy/moderate half-day hike, and runs for 4 -5 hours into the great wild beauty of Anchorage’s backyard backcountry. It is a gentler hike with some uphills, and great views while trekking along our majestic valley floors. This hike requires the physical stamina and strength to hike for a half day anywhere from 2 to 6 miles while carrying a 5-10 pound pack.

Both Summer and Winter hikes offer up some of the most amazing experiences; it is at once awe-inspiring as it is peaceful, beautiful yet reserved. There are several trails in our Chugach State park which offer up amazing hikes to experience in both summer & winter landscapes. Some are ascents on Mountain ridges, while others are gentler walks in forested trails and alpine valleys.

Due to Covid precautions we will not be able to provide any transportation. We will contact you before the hike and agree on a trail based on what you would like to see and your physical abilities.

On the day of the hike we will meet at 9:00 am at the agreed upon trail head.

Along the way we will discuss local flora, fauna, geology, and history of the area. You can take a moment to enjoy the majestic beauty of our backcountry and fully immerse yourself in the moment. Bring a camera-we adhere to the "leave no trace" philosophy-take only pictures and memories, leave only footprints.

Dan and Kristina have spent a lifetime meandering in our local mountains, where one finds an endless well of joy. There are places for great views, challenging ascensions, and gentle wandering that fill your soul with peace and contentment. This is pure wilderness-a restorative antidote to modern stresses that affect our health and well-being, an experience of pure joy and connection with nature. This is what inspired Dan and Kristina to start their company, Into the Woods-a place where all ages can reconnect with nature and their own sense of well-being.

Where you'll be

We will be hiking into Alaska's Chugach State Park. This park is bigger than the state of Rhode Island, offering many trails to explore. A half day hiking tour allows us to handpick the best option for each group and each given day. Winter hiking also allows you to explore places that become impassible in the summer months due to dense vegetation. Some of our favorite winter hikes are: Wolvering Bowl Trail, Bird Ridge, and Winner Creek Trail.

Nice glimpse into the Alaskan trail system overlooking the Arm, but early April meant a bit of poor weather, which we were somewhat surprised at as high winds and mini snow storms are possible in this month per locals. Dan was well prepared as we needed spikes with a trekking pole each for traction as breakup basically guarantees ice and or slush. Saw tons of fresh moose sign and got some good back country info from Dan regarding the area, weather, and animal encounters. Would hire again for a return visit for multi day backpacking in the back country. Thanks again Dan

First time in Alaska, by myself and unsure of terrain/ animals/ what locations were open. Really a perfect introduction to the magic of Alaska. Dan had great information and shared ideas for other outings I could do comfortably by myself. Can't wait to come back in the warmer seasons to hike with them again! Bird ridge in the winter was breath taking thank you!

My friend and I (gals in our early 20s) really enjoyed our experience with Bre. She was personable, very knowledgeable, and passionate about the outdoors. It was snowing a lot which made for a fun backcountry adventure! They provided gaiters and crampons as was necessary. I would definitely recommend this experience for those looking to adventure & meet locals.

I had a blast hiking Bird Ridge Trail with Kristina. She is very knowledgeable about the area and was able to find the way even through the snowstorm. The trail itself is very scenic and offers great views of Turnagain arm. We had some great conversations during the hike about physics and linguistics. I highly recommend this experience to everyone

It was a very good trip that I enjoyed a lot, really good company, stories, talking about each other's lives, Kristina is a very smart and prepared person. It was by far more than I expected and the views we got! I'm in love with Alaska.

Kristina and Dan (And sukki) were absolutely wonderful, and hiking with Kristina and Sukki was one of the most amazing experiences we've ever had, we walked right up into the mountains, which was georgeous - kristina was extremely knowledgeable and really made us feel welcome and safe (we even got bear spray) cannot recommend more!
