Beyond Dim Sum, A Bite of Chinatown

Beyond Dim Sum, A Bite of Chinatown

We will meet at the entrance of Chinatown and take a walk as we briefly learn about the history of North America’s oldest and longest continuous-running Chinatown. We'll stroll among the street vendors, kitsch shops, specialty stores, and mouthwatering hole-in-the-wall eateries. We will stop by my favorite dim sum…

I'm originally from Chengdu, China. After working and living in Italy, Texas, and Los Angeles, I've settled down in the San Francisco Bay Area as a costume designer and independent producer. Food has always been my favorite way to explore and experience a different culture. It's the same for dim sum, since they aren't common in the region where I'm from. My first dim sum, yum cha experience was in the United States. It brought me to a new level of understanding Chinese food and the overseas Chinese culture, which carries the heritage from the home culture but has been influenced by The West.

Where you'll be

We will have dim sum at Great Eastern Restaurant, which is my favorite spot in Chinatown for dim sum and other Cantonese dishes.
