What you'll do

We will visit the Franciscan Route in the heart of Tlajomulco. These are towns where the Franciscan friars developed much of the beautiful architecture that we see today. We also are going to visit a total of five villages. In all of them you are goingo to see the greatest attraction, be it´s temple, cemetery and squares. All the stops will be full of architectural spaces that have survived the passage of time. We start in the Home Depot parking lot (López Mateos) and from there we will travel to Santa Cruz de las Flores, you will see the impressive temples of the town and the point that marks the center of the State of Jalisco. Later we will travel to San Lucas Evangelista, home of artisans in volcanic stone and "charros". You´ll be amazed to hear the noise of the artisans molding huge stones and turn them into amazing pieces of kitchen and garden. Then we will surround the Laguna de Cajititlán, until we reach the town of San Juan Evangelista, house of another very particular style of craftsmanship that marks Tlajomulco. There we will meet one of the oldest and most beautiful chapels in Jalisco and it´s colorful pantheon. There we are going to stop in a workshop of artisans. Then we go to the Malecon of Cuexcomatitlán. We finish in Cajititlán, "The Land of the Wise Men" a sanctuary visited by more than one million people every year. The tour ends Tlaquepaque.
Other things to note
The departure and arrival times are programmed to avoid the peak traffic time, so that the experience can be appreciated without the problem of returning to the place of departure.

I´m the founder and director of Ecclesia News, a facebook page of religious traditions in 4 countries. For three years I settled in Guadalajara and I have specialized in Mexican traditions, in the hands of historians and experts in Mexican culture. I'm adventurous, that's why I wanted to share the knowledge I received. I have discovered landscapes, customs and villages that are a few kilometers from the city and that go unnoticed by most locals and visitors. I´m passionate about Mexican culture and the sites that house its history. I will do everything in my power to give you a day in the Mexico of yesteryear. If you´re staying in Ajijic, this is an ideal tour for you. I invite you to know more on my Instagram profile @gdl_desde_mi_lente

German is a great tour guide, fun, kind, and patient. He worked so hard to make his Day of the Dead Tour work, but too many things weren't available due to city virus interventions, so I took his Franciscan Way Tour instead. Although I was the only person signed up (coronavirus times) he did the tour. You'll definitely get a look at small rural Mexican towns as well as German's inside info on many aspects of local life. Highly recommended.

Te lleva a descubrir lugares realmente mágicos, llenos de historia y únicos. Muy buena experiencia, especialmente conocer sobre la casa del maíz y la parroquia de los 3 Reyes Magos fue espectacular!

This tour was extra special. I was looking for something truly unique and outside the norms of tourism. On this tour you meet very genuine and heart warning locals and truly special localities. La casa del maíz was the best.

German provides a tour that shows how Guadalajara used to be before it became the international city it is today and the tour finishes in Tlaquepaque, which is another great experience of the region.

Our day with German was truly fabulous. German made adjustments to the schedule due to a rain storm and we saw some areas on Lake Chapala that weren't on the itinerary. He contacted us before the tour to find out if we had any special requests and also made accomodations for our requests. You will learn a lot and see sights not available on other tours. You can tell he loves being a tour guide, has given A LOT of thought into what makes a good tour and is a delightful person to spend the day with. We highly recommend his tour.
