Cooking experience hosted by Morven

  1. 3 hours
  2. Hosted in English and Spanish
Bring the whole family
For kids 8 and up.

What you'll do

We'll introduce ourselves and get ready to start the workshop.
We will chat about what we'll cook that day, which will depend on the donated produce received from Fareshare. http://fareshare.org.uk
We'll cook a dish or two, usually soup, chutneys, jams and or cakes.
While we're cooking I can explain how the RCK Edinburgh Fundraising Group support the ongoing work of Refugee Community Kitchen in Northern France and London, who provide 2000 meals a day to destitute refugees stuck at our borders.
Learn some new cooking tricks and preserving techniques to cook more sustainably, using donated surplus food.
We'll sit down and eat together to learn more about each other in a relaxed manner, enjoying the fruits of our labour. The chutneys and jams that we have made will be used to fundraise for RCK at future events. The cakes we make will be distributed the same day to homeless people in Edinburgh with Streetcare Scotland. https://www.humanism.scot/get-involved/streetcare/
Other things to note
Wear suitable clothes and shoes for cooking.
I'll provide aprons.
Please let me know if you have any dietary requirements.

I'm a chef from Edinburgh, I love everything to do with food and the community it creates. I've been holding workshops in my home with different themes. This one is to support an organisation close to my heart, Refugee Community Kitchen. I've set up a fundraising group in Edinburgh. We use surplus food, donated through Fareshare, to make soups, cakes and chutneys, which are used to create funds for RCK. After volunteering several times in Calais and seeing the amazing work of RCK, feeding displaced people in Northern France, I wanted to continue to support them however possible from home.

An enjoyable afternoon, we were made to feel welcome. Morven shared her skills, knowledge and she was passionate about using produce that would normally be thrown out. I would recommend this experience

There is simply no better way to cook some wonderful food with an experienced chef while simultaneously making a positive impact on the world. Morven was warm, inviting, and made sure that we were actively engaged throughout the entire class. We left having created three wonderful dishes and helped to support a great cause! I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to give back to the community while picking up some new skills!

This is a totally different way of learning about food waste, the refugee crisis and how you can do little things to make a difference. Our children (9,13,16) enjoyed the competitive chopping, the delicious jam and soup we made, and the opportunity to see another side of Edinburgh. We really recommend this experience.

Cooking and baking with Morven was a fantastic and magical experience. The cause is close to my heart anyway, to help anyone in need get meals and feel cared for is a wonderful thing. Will definitely be back : )

Morven was absolutely brilliant. We booked last minute and my family went as part of my birthday celebration. We made soup and banana loaf and muffin. She connected with us all. I definitely recommend this. She was so cultured, respectful and understanding. Her Scottish hospitality showed in the way she dealt with us. She is an amazing loving person. Thank you for making my birthday even more special.

I really enjoyed this experience as I gained insight on refugee camps near the UK while also feeling I was making a difference, not just getting educated. Along with this I liked that I was contributing closer to home by making homemade food to go to homeless people in Edinburgh.
