About your host

I am a zen priest who trained for 15 years at the San Francisco Zen Center. These days I take zen and meditation out into the world; I love to be outdoors and to share my favourite parts of San Francisco.

What we’ll do

This is a chance to see some hidden corners of San Francisco that even people born in the city might never have visited, and to hike with mindfulness and an emphasis on quiet presence. We will start with some guided meditation practice in an outdoor urban setting, and there will be a few places en route where we will pause to meditate, and take in the amazing views.

What else you should know

Bring snacks, water, and layers for variable weather - there is always wind! Wear shoes suitable for unpaved hiking. Be prepared for some uphills - we don't get the views without a little effort!

What to bring

Water.
Snacks.
Layers of clothes to deal with the weather.
Shoes suitable for a couple of hours of hiking.
An appreciation of silence.

Where you'll be

The route starts at the big Rainbow Flag at the intersection of Castro and Market. We will head to some quiet streets, up the hillsides, climbing hidden alleys and staircases, landing in small open spaces with amazing views in all directions.
