What you'll do

Learn turntable basics at a well-known music studio

The inside out music experience begins at 4:00 p.m. with a private, two-hour DJ lesson at Pyramind, one of the top music production schools in the country. Your instructor will be Shawn Mercado (aka M3RC), a top local DJ who has performed with artists such as The Chainsmokers, LA Riots, Blasterjaxx, and many more. He’ll go over the fundamentals of DJing with the industry standard CDJs and teach you how to tune your ear to the subtleties of electronic music and beat matching. After the lesson, you’ll have time to go home, change, and grab dinner before heading out to dance your heart out at the The Great Northern, one of San Francisco’s best dance music nightclubs.

Great way to contribute towards reducing recidivism! If you're hoping to learn a lot about the process of electronic music production or DJ techniques beyond what you can learn in 10 minutes via YouTube, this class probably isn't for you.

Great experience! A taste of what it's like to dj done on professional equipment. The club later that evening was super fun as well. I have anew appreciation for all that goes into being a really good dj.

Our host Zach is a very nice guy and works for a really cool organization that tries to help at-risk youths through music. The DJ lesson we had with Sean was really interesting and gave me a new appreciation for the art of DJing. We also went to the Great Northern club afterwards with Zach and they were having a cool party. It's a great club if you are into electronic dance music and you have a nice group. By the way, I am an Airbnb employee and I was there testing out the experience. Thumbs up.

This was a fantastic experience. Zach gave a great intro and our instructor Sean was phenomenal. He explained concepts very clearly and succinctly and then we had hands on experience doing our own transitions. He managed to condense weeks of classes into a couple hours. We also enjoyed the DJ party afterwards. It was a totally local sub-culture. We danced past midnight. The first DJ was just ok but the second one was great. And we knew the difference :) Highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a fun weekend activity, off the beaten path, and for a great cause. It was their first time doing it, and our group was all Airbnb employees, including myself, and I was very impressed that it was the first one.

We had a great time at the DJ lesson with the group. It is catered to anyone regardless of their past exposure to music and DJ. Sean's passion for music and DJ is infectious and I walked away with great interest and respect for this art in addition to the things I learned. Zach was also a great host and extremely easy to communicate with. I regret that I didn't participate in the clubbing because of other plans I had later in the evening. Ps. I am an employee at Airbnb.
