What you'll do
This walking tour led by Captain Bryan is not your average "sit there and shut up" tour where the guide won't even remember your name. Rather, after brief introduction, Captain Bryan will lead you on a historic journey of how Shem Creek came to prominence with its famous shrimping fleet and much more. Unlike any other tour in the area, guest have the ability to see the industry at work. Guest will start with some underlying history of the area in Old Village. Perhaps the group will meet Mr. Rector at Geechie Seafood with his several shrimp boats, beautiful reminders of the bountiful harvest to be conducted offshore. Furthermore, sample some of the key lime pie made by the family of Mrs. Fitch who is the owner of Mt. Pleasant seafood or try your hand cast netting or tossing a crab line. This is not a tour, it is an experience to immerse yourself in a culture that is truly intrinsic to the area. Take back history, culture, language, snacks, but most of all guests will take from this experience an underlying appreciation for our local shrimpers and the history behind these hard working men and women. As Captain Bryan says, " Live the Local Life" and this experience is the perfect opportunity to do so.

One of our best tour experiences ever - and we've done dozens! Our teens all give it glowing reviews too. Great stories packed with history, beautiful walk through neighborhoods & the Shem Creek working community. We imagined battles in the harbor, visited with a multi generational shrimping family, watched a load of oysters be unloaded, and our teens learned to throw a shrimp net. Bryan is engrained in this community with exper knowledge & great energy. We'll be back!

We totally enjoyed our time with Bryan. He is knowledgeable and an enthusiastic story teller. His love of the area and the subject-Shrimp and sustainability is contagious. We will never think about shrimp and where and how it is procured in the same way again.
