What you'll do

This astounding necropolis is one of the oldest in Europe. It is older than its well-known ‘fellows’- the Parisian Père Lachaisein and London’s Highgate. The Lychakiv Cemetery is rightfully called an outdoor museum. In its area of over 40 hectares, we will see more than 300 000 gravestones, monuments, and vaults. Many of them are not just masterpieces of art, but also important components of cultural and historical heritage. In 1991, the necropolis was officially recognized as a historical reserve.

We will go to the Lychakiv Cemetery but a taxi from the city center and will walk there around 2 hours. I plan to show you the most interesting gravestones and will tell you interesting stories about people who buried here. After walking we will come back to the city center by taxi.

The entrance fee is included.

Regarding the situation with COVID-19, I provide experiences using masks for me and my guests.

Hello, my name is Anna and I'm in love with Ukraine and Lviv city. I'm a professional guide in Lviv and the region. And I would like to show special places here like Kastelivka district, Novy Svit or Pidzamche. Typical tourists never go there by themself. I've graduated from the historical faculty Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University and defended my Ph.D. thesis in ethnology. So I like to share my knowledge but in an easy fun way with a lot of jokes. Guiding is my passion and for each guest, I try to make a friendly and atmosphere of hospitality. My goal is to create a feeling that we know each other for a long time and you just visit your old friend in Lviv. I provide tours in English, Polish, Ukrainian and Russian languages. Join me!

Where you'll be

Lychakiv Cemetery is one of the most grandiose and significant European necropolises. It was founded in 1786 and since then only the outstanding, well-known, and wealthy people have been buried there - culture, art, and science figures as well the political and administrative elite of the capital of the Kingdom of Halychyna (Galicia) and Lodomeria.

Anna is a fantastic story teller and helped me understand the history of Ukraine and some of its prominent people who are buried in the cemetery, which in itself is quite impressive. Anna couldn’t be friendlier or more welcoming, and gave me additional great tips for my time in Lviv.

You will not regret taking a walk through the monuments and tombstones of Lychakiv cemetery with Anna. Older than famous Père Lachaise in Paris, the Lychakiv cemetery is a must-visit place for people who want to plunge into Ukranian history. Anna will tell you life stories and show you gravestones of notable people who were buried here though centuries and introduce you to some local legends you won't find in tourist booklets.
