What you'll do

More than half of milk production in Japan is producesd in Hokkaido. There are also many good cheeses that are difficult to obtain only in Hokkaido.
In this experience, you can fully enjoy the cheese including the best cheese and wine from Hokkaido, beer, cooking with sake!
I will take you to cafes/restaurants in Sapporo, where I have produced cheese menu.

Once we get to a venue, I will explain the natural cheese we eat today, including Hokkaido and dairy products, the history of dairy farming, culture, manufacturing methods, cutting method, delicious way of eating, etc.
Then you will taste natural cheese.
You will be able to try rare cheese made in small cheese factories (Fermier) in Hokkaido.

During the experience, I will ask you to cut the cheese. Also enjoy snacks with delicious natural cheese. You will probably be fascinated by the attractiveness of Hokkaido cheese.

I really want you to enjoy Hokkaido-specific food!

After I left one of a major dairy company in Japan ten years ago, I became a lecturer of natural cheese at Sapporo City's cultural school. I’m also a food coordinator and an advisor of the Natural Cheese society. I hold fun events with Hokkaido's natural cheese lovers on a regular basis.
I’ve introduced menus for TV programs and restaurants, bars and cafes in Sapporo city and introduced cheese.

Where you'll be

We will meet at Sapporo Odori Park where is a very beautiful park.
Depending on the number of people and time, I will choose the best venue where has local atomosphere and lovely food.
We will walk 10 minutes on foot, so you can enjoy the sceneris around the town.
After the experience, I can take you to my recommendation of cheese shops and more, if you want;)

I really enjoyed our cheese tasting. It was a nice experience and offered both good cheese and wine. Nice to learn about cheese from Hokkaido, and also some other Hokkaido specific stuff.

Fun! Marby-san was a kind and friendly host. He brought us to a friend's bar space for a cosy private session, introducing us to a generous, delicious selection of locally produced cheeses, some of which were really unique. It was enlightening to not only learn where they came from and how they were made, but he gave us insight into what was the locals' way of enjoying them (unexpectedly yummy), how strong options may be made more palatable, along with suggestions of liquor pairings that went well with them. As people who weren't necessarily cheese connoisseurs, Marby-san's vast expertise helped us understand more about a subject we love but often overlook. He was also really friendly, and made conversation with us quite naturally. English is not his first language, but he was very earnest in his explanations, and open to questions. He was still clear in his answers. Would definitely recommend this session to any casual cheese fans who want to feel like aficionados for the day, or to anyone who wants to have a great tasting of the variety of Hokkaido cheeses the region is known for!

Marby was a friendly and very knowledgeable host! We learned a lot about Hokkaido cheese, and all the cheeses were delicious. It was nice going around to local spots to taste cheese. We felt very welcomed and thought it was a wonderful way to start off our Japan trip.

Marby’s Cheese experience gives you a unique insight into not only cheese making in Hokkaido, but also the dairy agricultural aspect of Hokkaido. It was an amazing and tasty experience getting to be taught by a cheese and wine professor! Marby’s expansive knowledge of cheese and kind hearted personality made him a wonderful host. Highly recommend if you are into cheese.

Marby is an expert of Cheeses, from the first beginning, he helped me a lot about booking this event.
