What you'll do

Paddle your way through a mangrove channel leading to “Laguna Grande.” There, you will meet the Pyrodinium Bahamense, a microscopic plankton capable of producing natural light at the touch of your hand!

Explore these amazing organisms up close as your eco-guides teach you about this fragile / unique ecosystem that maintains a perfect balance of life and what you can do to protect such a special place.

This 2 hour bio bay kayak tour includes interesting interpretations about the reserves fragile ecology, star constellations and a fascinating encounter with billions of bioluminescent organisms. Watch how every stroke of your paddle leaves behind a glowing swirl of blue light and fish light up their path in the water.

The adventure to Laguna Grande can only be described as magical - creating memories that will last a lifetime!

Please know that this is a natural wonder and there are occasions different un-controlable natural factors that can impact the micro-organism, causing us to experience low glow such as bright moon and changes in water temperature.

Regardless it is still a super fun kayaking adventure and an experience not to miss while in Puerto Rico! If you have questions you can message us prior to making your booking. See you soon!

Born and raised in Puerto Rico as an aspiring professional athlete, I developed a deep sense of pride and love for this island. My whole life, I have dreamed of representing Puerto Rico and its people the best way I could.
I got an education in Business Administration at Ohio Dominican University (on a baseball scholarship), while guiding aquatic adventures in the island during summer and winter breaks.
In 2006, I co-founded Kayaking Puerto Rico to fulfill my life long dream and to show the world the amazing natural treasures our island has to offer. Today, we are proud to employ over 40 team members that share our vision, hold over 25 Trip Advisor Excellence Awards and are honored to be one of Puerto Rico’s most recommended excursion outfitters.

This is a really nice experience especially if you've never seen bioluminescence in person before. I would say a bit of skill is needed to properly enjoy the tour and maneuver the kayak, navigating to the bay there are a few different water environments that can be tricky to navigate (bay, mangroves, ocean shore). The guides were so patient and lovely and they provide tarps to help you see the bioluminescence when there is a bright moon.

Not a great night for a trip out. We did not get to have the full experience and kids were disappointed. The group had a back up plan with tarps to make the area darker, however, for children this was not helpful. Their should be an option to opt-out if going into they know the night is not ideal for the tour.
