Hello I'm Rita, I´ve spent my childhood in nature and in the countryside and always felt more at home in the midst of greenery but lived in cities until nine years ago I´ve taken a firm leap from the city and the communication design office I was working on and moved to the rural Minho region. Meanwhile the love for spontaneous flora really caught me and I´ve been dedicated to the study and the spreading of the benefits and potentialities of the wild plants. Through herb walks and herbalism classes I invite people to carefully look and meet each species, collect respectfully, prepare medicinal teas, tinctures and meals with wild foods that show the land which surrounds us in a meal. All these are the ways I´ve found to show the bountiful of these persistent local plants.

Rita’s walk with plants is an unforgettable experience. We paired the two activities at the family estate so we subsequently spent the day with Rita and Lourenço. We were welcomed with open arms from the minute we drove through the gates. Our boys started the day with the pony rides- then we spent the afternoon with the plant walk. We enjoyed fantastic food made from plants on the grounds of the household. It was phenomenal. Rita entwined the stories of plants, the role of ecosystems with the role of each plant in maintaining balance, history of the arrival of plants to the area and the way that the plants on the estates changed with time and the use of the land. This plant walk was not only about wild crafting and plant medicine but also of history. I purchased a copy of her book which is beautifully illustrated. She is in process of writing a second. We shared the experience with our two boys- which was prearranged (normal minimum age is set at 14). Rita customized the experience to capture their attention. Lourenço entertained us in between with stories of his family. These stories tell the history of Portugal and make the history come alive in such a way that you leave feeling so engrossed that you want to do more research to dive deeper. Sharing this day with Rita and Lourenço was a highlight of our vacation.

We were on a company trip and decided to do the plant walk with a group of 11. When we walked onto the property it was like we stepped into a different time in a magical land. It was such a warm welcome and we instantly felt at home. Rita and her partner welcomed us with some lemonade, tea, and snacks and we sat by the fireplace to get to know each other a little before we went out in the gardens to explore and learn about the plants, herbs, vegetable, and fruits they have on their property. Afterward, we had a royal, yummy, organic lunch. We couldn't have been happier with the experience and are definitely planning to visit again and recommend it to everyone. Thank you so much for the wonderful time!
