The first time I rode a horse was at 5 years old, the Mexican countryside is something particular, always exciting and full of life and color. Currently, in addition to "charreria" (equestrian Mexican tradition) we are practicing classic dressage. Some local guests usually join us for horseback rides at the Ajusco National Park, just 50 minutes from Mexico's City downtown.

Come with me and have an incredible horseback experience at the National Park Cumbres del Ajusco!

I absolutely treasured this experience and strongly recommend it to anyone in Mexico City. Yunuen was a flexible, generous host who ensured that our party was being looked after the entire trip. He enabled flexible pickup time, told the story of his family ranch, introduced me to his family, and encouraged our party to stay for dinner. We met all horses including stallions and pregnant mares, and they were gentle/spirited. He guided us to decide whether we wanted to take the mares walking or trotting as we climbed the mountains. I had ridden only once before but found it easy thanks to the horses. The scenery was beyond idyllic - breathtaking. So many photo moments. As there were few of us, it was entirely custom - we moved at our pace and went where we wanted. He even surprised our birthday guest with a cupcake at a private garden rooftop after the ride. I’m grateful and feel relaxed after an amazing day on a must-take tour.

I was conflicted about writing a review about my experience because I genuinely liked the host. However, I had a really bad experience because our horses got spooked and threw me and I spent 5 hours in the emergency room with a fractured wrist. The hosts’ horse also freaked out and took off. This can be a good experience for people who are VERY knowledgeable in handling my horses, but you must consider the potential danger. ANYTHING can happen when dealing with horses or any other large animal. I recommend wearing a helmet. The host has them but did not offer to me. I got beat very bad and was in terrible pain for a week. Not a great way to begin a vacation! Also, the description said other animals were on the property and that is not true. There are only horses.

It was a great experience at the Yunuen's family ranch. He made us feel welcome and gave us some good tips also about places to check out in Mexico City. Yunuen was also a great guide and teacher during the Horse riding experience. We enjoyed riding up the hill with horses with some vantage points during the ride where you can see the view of Mexico city. I would recommend this experience if you are looking to do something outside Mexico city.

I know being on a ranch and riding horses may not be the first thing you think of it when it comes to Mexico city, but it is something that should be added to every CDMX itinerary. Yunuen really goes above and beyond to give you a unique and personal experience. He gives choice as well... if you'd like a glass of wine, if you want to watch a dressage demonstration, if you want to play with the other animals on the ranch, or if you'd like to ride horses more after the initial ride. I was very impressed with his hospitality and thoughfulness when it came to the dinner served to us. It was wonderful and the settings/view is iconic. The horses and national park are stunning as well. Thank you so much Yunuen for such a wonderful experience. Don't think twice, book with Yunuen!

Riding horses in the mountains that ring mexico city was an unforgettable experience. It's so high up, you can see the treeline fading into the clouds. And from the mountain you get an epic view of the entire city, and you can see it's massive scale. The authentic bbq was also pretty great too.
