What you'll do

First, I will meet you at the heart of the Crescent City-the Great Mississippi-at the dock of the Canal Street Ferry Terminal. From there, I’ll take you on a smooth sailing, short and informative ride to the other side, docking in quaint Algiers Point. Described as "New Orleans’ Brooklyn without the bustle" Algiers Point has the best views of the city from the riverfront that have inspired artists throughout history. Exploring the walking paths on the westbank levee, I will give you some quick tips and tricks for creating successful sketches as we provide historical and relevant information about the city... stopping along the way to draw.

We'll end at a local bar for a drink to share our drawings and I can answer any questions you may have about NOLA and/or art. There I can assist with my knowledge of making and additional materials to be sure you have a unique keepsake unlike any other souvenir that you can take home and be proud to share with friends. I will walk you back to the ferry, or you can feel free to stick around explore the sites (Victorian cottages adorned with oak trees, community parks and a "village like" atmosphere outside of the city) on your own.
Other things to note
If you have any medical conditions, please travel responsibly and bring any medication you need with you. As well, we'll do this weather permitting! Other than that, let's just have fun.

I have decades of experience and skills as a Professional Artist and Teaching Artist (beginners welcomed!) making me an expert at helping guide others to find their voice through the act of making. I want to provide a unique opportunity to create and have fun while sketching and exploring the
-rarely seen- best views of our city! As a local of New Orleans, I know the greatest spots to draw, the best kept secret watering holes (if you need some spirits for inspiration) and want to show you the heart of NOLA as I share my passion for the arts and the place I call home.

Where you'll be

Canal Street Ferry: Mississippi River (east to west bank) to view & learn about the city;

Algiers Point River Walk: Sketching Tour;

The Dry Dock Cafe (133 Delaronde St): With its authentic New Orleans atmosphere, this tucked away treasure of Algiers Point (near the ferry landing) is where we will end our experience. Take in the local perspective of the traditional casual neighborhood cafe.

What a great afternoon out with Lissie! She pushed my artistic boundaries with a medium I don’t usually use (pastel) and helped me “see” the shapes of my contour drawing better. I couldn’t have asked for a better instructor!

Lissie was fantastic!! She was passionate about sharing her knowledge and her enthusiasm was contagious even for those who may not be very experienced. She was a great communicator and was flexible, kind and accommodating. She left us wishing we had more time to spend with her. Fantastic experience!

Just as promised -- actually, even BETTER!! Even in the days leading up to the tour, Lissie was great at sending notes and photos, to answer questions and help us find the meeting place. She oriented us before boarding the ferry and proved an invaluable guide as she taught us how to "see" and encouraged us as we tried various media (pencil, graphite stick, etc) to create our sketches. Meeting her - and the other participants - was truly a highlight of our visit to New Orleans!!!

We had the best time. Lissie was such a great sketching guide. She really gave us great tips and encouragement! Our group enjoyed the whole experience and it was truly a fun was to 'see' the city. I'd book this again in a minute. Cheers.

Lissie was a great tour guide! I have almost no experience drawing or sketching, but she was a really patient teacher and taught me some sketching basics. I also got to take a ferry across the Mississippi River and visit Algiers--two things I wouldn't have done had I not booked this experience. That alone was worth the price! Excellent value!

The Urban Sketching experience was awesome! Lissie is a fantastic host—very knowledgeable about New Orleans and an excellent teacher. I am not an artist, but Lissie made me feel very comfortable, and I was actually surprised by how happy I was with my finished product. Also, the ferry ride from to Algiers Point was a great—something I’ve never done before but would recommend to anyone! This is a very unique experience that o would recommend to anybody seeking something new in NOLA!
