What you'll do

We start at the Meyrick hotel, who always put on a great display as we near Christmas.

We then take a wander through the Christmas market on Eyre Square, perhaps taking in a warming drink. We have got to know many of the stallholders over the years, so your not just another 'tourist'. Many of our traders are out and about all year at events in the city, and they become part of the fabric of the place.

We then head through the main shopping area of the city, taking a moment to admire some of the medieval remains and the odd festive busker or two . Again many of them know me well from conducting various tours over the years.

We then head into the Church of St Nicolas of Myra (better known as Santa Claus) to explore its hidden treasures.

Finally we end up in one of my favouite cafes for coffee (or tea) and a seasonal treat. (included). Mince pies all round !

We look forward to meeting you and allowing Galway to give you the best seasons greetings from a city that was voted the friendliest place on earth,

Hi, I've been runiing walking tours in Galway for over a decade now with great reviews and even a few awards !

I've known the city for over 30 years, and finally managed to move to Galway to live 10 years back.

In the past I used to teach history, and this passion combined to produce a series of tours that people have been so kind to comment on generously.

Authorised by the Tourist board (Failte Ireland), I have welcomed guest from all over the world to really 'get' Galway.

It's great to be able to present a rather special tour to show off our city at one of it's most magical time

Where you'll be

The Xmas market is a great innovation in Galway's long list of festivals. It might not be in Germany, but you could imagine you were among the wooden cabins, with the smell of mulled wine and sizzling bratwurst hanging in the air.

Galwegians always make effort to really celebrate Christmas, and many shops really pull out the stops for the season.

We also get a good chance to explore a fine medieval church...dedicated to the big man himself

Neil is crazy fun and is a wonderful guide. Our Christmas was walk was not only magical it was very insightful and chalked full of what felt like secrets of Galway's history. We had our teenage daughters 15/17 along for the tour. Neil is so good he kept them engaged with not just his stories and history, by asking them questions and making them feel part of the tour. It's no easy feat to keep teens off their phones for 90 minutes, Neil did. I can't speak highly enough on behalf of this guide. It's a must do if you've never visited Galway or if you have you might just learn a new twist on the city of Galway. Kari & Smith Family Los Angeles Ca

We had a really wonderful experience in the Christmassy Galway. It’s all over Christmas and besides we learned interesting facts about the city, the inhabitants, the history of Galway and discovered some gems, we might have missed. Neil made it a perfect mixture of historical and fun facts and made up a big surprise for the group as well. He is really good at story-telling and got everyone hooked. We enjoyed it quite much. Thanks a million for this wonderful afternoon on Christmas Eve!
