What you'll do

In this day-long class, designed as a unit that may be expanded into a longer immersion and scheduled to fit your schedule by request , I will partner with you to advance your skills in the fine art of pyrography. We will begin with a tour of my gallery and an inspirational slideshow of some of the world's best pyrographic art. We will then devote our remaining time to a special project of your choice--engaging its most challenging features--to build your skills. I will share with you my techniques to achieve realism and explore the possibilities of enhancing your project by introducing color. We'll take a break for lunch (at your leisure at a nearby restaurant, or you may bring a packed lunch to eat here) and return to pick up where we left off. My goal will be to tailor our time and focus on the most difficult parts of your project to enable you to complete it with confidence after our time together if we don't get done in the time we have. I invite you to choose and sketch out one or more projects that interest you and that will push you beyond the current level of your skills in several ways. I will do my best to use the time we have to coach you towards its completion.

Since my earliest encounters with woodburning, taking in its aromas, warm handsome tones and natural beauty, this exquisite artform has captivated me. Working with the unique aesthetic qualities of wood I've felt a deep spiritual connection with nature and a sense that there is a greater creative artistry evident in its fabric, a realization that adds both mystery and meaning to my art. For over 35 years since I gathered up some pieces for my first show, this remarkable medium has continued to enchant me and I've found equal joy in sharing what I do with my customers and students who too have been drawn to its beauty.
