What you'll do

You can step into “Shoutouan” and enjoy the lesson surrounded by the Japanese garden and the unique architecture “Sukiyazukuri”. First of all, I would like to tell you the origin and history of Matcha, relationship to Zen, and about Sen no Rikyu, our first tea master. Then I would show you the most important spiritual four characters “Wa Kei Sei Jyaku” that he taught us and still alive in our time. Next, before demonstrating how to make the thin tea which process you can hardly see, I could tell you some basic manners as a guest. Then I hope you can find “Wa Kei Sei Jyaku” in every act I do, while you’re taking Japanese sweets and a bowl of green tea I serve you. It’s my pleasure to explain where they are, for sharing the very deep world of the Way of Tea with you. After all, you can enjoy to make your own tea and taste it. If you want to get valuable souvenirs (updated here) selected from my favorite local supplier of utensils used in the Way of Tea, please let me know when you apply this site. Airbnb would charge you an extra fee(¥5000) for it later. I truly hope this experience will be unforgettable and the souvenirs will remind you of the memories in beautiful Kanazawa.

Tomomi

I’m Tomomi, an instructor of the Way of Tea in Kanazawa, which once was a great castle town of the Kaga Domain Maeda Family. They were instrumental in developing traditional Japanese high culture including the Way of Tea, and ordinary people here have been enjoyed it. I’ve been living here, got some licenses at Ura Tea school and studied how to better explain and demonstrate it in English in Seattle, USA. Now I would like to share it with foreign visitors in the real tea room “Shoutouan” just next to popular Kenrokuen Garden. Why don’t you come and experience it while you are here?
