What you'll do

With over 12 years guiding experience under my belt, I will take you off the beaten path and bring ancient Roman society to life, telling the stories behind the art and architecture. Showing you the masterpieces that you absolutely have to see before you leave Rome.
We will visit the Capuchin Crypts. Six Crypts decorated with the Bones of almost 4000 monks. Altars and symbols of Christianity made from human remains . Learn the intricacies of religious burial rights as we try to grasp that universal question.
Next we are off the to the Basilica of S. Clemente - a 12th century Basilica built on top of a 4th century Basilica, built on top of a 2nd century Temple of Mythros, On top of a 1st century Roman Apartment block.
Starting with the 12th century Basilica we will learn about the amazing byzantine art and mosaics. Continuing down to the 4th century Basilica where you will discover the early formation of the Christian Church and admire the frescoes and symbols within. I am an American living in Rome, Italy since 2003. Married to an Italian, I Graduated from The American University of Rome. Working as a tour guide in and around Rome. I have a passion for history, travel and Italian Cuisine. Laughter is the key ingredient to a fulfilling life and humor is big part of what I bring to every experience. Master storyteller, my tours tend to be humorous bordering on Blasphemous. I focus on the stories behind the art, artist, architecture and Archaeology. Lets face it, nobody remembers all the the names and dates. They remember the Stories.

Michael was extremely knowledgeable about all the stops! We definitely would’ve walked past a ton of history if we hadn’t bought this experience! Michael also makes you feel super comfortable by tossing in a few curated dad-jokes. Great experience all around

Also bitte mindestens +30€ rechnen. Dann habt ihr nen netten Ausflug mit neuen Eindrücken 😊

Take this tour! It’s so cool and unique. It does not disappoint. The tour guide is so informative even with non tour guide related things like food recommendations. You are missing out if you look this experience over. Do it!

We had a great time and saw parts of Rome that I have never even heard/seen about!! Definitely interesting and was an off the beaten track kind of tour. We loved it! Only thing to keep in mind, which is stated in the description, is to be ready to spend another 40-45€ for entrance fees and taxi. Bring cash!

We were greeted by Jonathan, a friend of Mike's who is also a tour guide, who made the tour extremely compelling and was insanely knowledgeable and gripping ! some excellent tips for dishes and restaurants to try during our stay in Rome too 😊 thank you so much

Mike provided an exceptional tour that blew us away. It kept us entertained with lots of macabre humor sprinkled throughout. We would highly recommend for anyone who wants to keep things light in this heavy subject matter.
