What you'll do

Recipes make the best souvenirs.

The goal of this class is for you to have a fun night, to serve you a delicious four course meal that will leave you in a food coma, and give you easy and reliable recipes that can remind you of your Austin trip every time you make them at home.

First, we'll make restaurant style queso and a roasted salsa verde to munch on with chips.

Next we'll make chorizo and sweet potato tacos on fresh corn tortillas (made from scratch by you!) with a tomato-cucumber-watermelon salad.

Finally, we'll end the meal by making traditional pecan pralines from scratch.

Come with empty stomachs. Leave with written recipes for each dish and all the leftovers you can carry.

Our night felt very intimate in that Fred and Alicia invited us into their home where we cooked dinner together and discussed food, culture, and the history of Austin and Texas. It was interesting to learn what Tex-Mex really meant beyond the food that we were assembling. All of the cooking took place in a kitchen, not unlike our own, so that we know we can successfully take the recipes back home with us. We have never done a cooking class that was not a “professional” type class taught by a chef but I really found this format quite interesting and satisfying. We will certainly look for more opportunities like this in other cities that we visit and I highly recommend Fred for your visit to Austin.

Fred was a great host and made a great dinner. He let us be as hands on or hands off as we wanted, and he adjusted spice level to our preference. Fred explained everything he was doing in a fun way. I would definitely recommend!

The class was wonderful! If you want a unique experience that revolves around food this is it. I would totally take another class from Fred in the future.
