What you'll do

We'll take advantage of the meeting point to please the most curious participants and make a quick tour in the University of Havana before traveling from Vedado, a well-known neighborhood in Havana, to my family's home in San Antonio, a municipality in the Artemisa province.

The 45 minutes drive will take us to a place where you won't find any tour guides, despite its history, art and natural beauty. You will get to see the real Cuba, farm fresh products and how real Cubans live.

We'll be cooking a delicious 3-course menu of Grandma's recipes, supervised by the lovely Grandma herself. And when we say 'we' will cook, that's exactly what we mean. This is a hands-on experience, including cocktail break!

Then, we will move to the Ariguanabo riverside and once there we will enjoy the picnic style food and more traditional Cuban cocktails. We'll also be able to row along the river in a well conserved piece of Cuban forest. After all activities, we'll return to the meeting point in Vedado.
Other things to note
-The transfer from your location to the meeting point is available, after consulting your exact address and the additional price of that service.

-It will be imperative to follow this rule: Enjoy the Cuban drinks, cuisine and nature.

Claudia and Alejandro: we live in San Antonio, a place full of history, art, and natural beauty. We love Grandma's recipes and the beautiful Ariguanabo river area so we decided to combine these two things for our experience! our family is an original member of the Ariguanabo Foundation, created to protect our river, which is the heart of our municipality.

Myself and 2 of my friends were traveling to Cuba for the first time and we thought this sounded like a unique experience. It ended up being such a special day for us. Our host Alejandro welcomed us into his home and treated us like family. If you truly want to experience Cuban culture you should book this experience. Not only was Alejandro our host for the day, he quickly became a friend! I would recommend this experience for anyone visiting Cuba.

As our third adventure in Cuba, we had a wonderful experience cooking Grandma's Recipes and visiting the Ariguanabo River! Alejandro, not Claudia, met us promptly and we drove in a classic car to his grandma's house in the countryside. While the grandma's English wasn't great, we still enjoyed our time spent with her and we felt welcomed in her home. We learned how to make tamales, malanga fritters, tostones with tuna filling, salads, mojitos, and Cuba Libres. While the "cooking" wasn't terribly complicate or complex (some chopping, sauteing, wrapping tamales, etc) for people with extensive cooking skills/background, it was still enjoyable to see how the base layers of Cuban food is developed and pick up a few new tricks for creating new foods. Once the meal was ready, we took a short drive to the river where there was a nice gazebo on a beautiful river where we could enjoy our meal. The food, view, and discussion with other experience attendees and Alejandro were well worth the effort and the trip. We had a fantastic day in the Cuban countryside.

Our host, Alejandro, was incredibly kind and careful to make sure that every part of the experience was special for us. The location for the picnic lunch was breathtaking, and cooking with Carmen was a unique experience (Carmen doesn’t speak English, but she’s happy to joke with you in any language!)

Wonderful experience! Alejandro met us promptly and we drove in a classic car to his grandma's house in the countryside. Even though grandma couldn't be there that day, I felt like we met her because Alejandro told us so many stories about her and we felt welcomed in her home. We learned how to make malanga fritters (my favorite!), tostones, tamales, salads, mojitos, and cuba libres. The house is beautiful. Then we brought our food to the river where we had a wonderful view and relaxed on a rowboat after. Perfect way to get out of chaotic Havana.
