What you'll do

We will meet front of Hashem Restaurant. Over the course of the tour, we will walk through Soug al Bukharieh (the first market established in Amman). The story of Jabal al Joufeh will be unveiled as we move towards the stunning view overlooking Amman from Ahmad's roof, where he will share with us his love for the art of pigeon taming and watching. His family will welcome us and tell us about living in an informal Palestinian camp. Walking through the narrow stairs that identify the city, we will arrive in downtown Amman, where we will meet the Falafel pioneer and hear the story of Fuad, established in 1948. With Habibah knafeh around the corner, we will enjoy a slice of their famous dish. Passing by Gahwet el Ahd al Qadim, we will hear about the Eucalyptus tree framing the old coffee shop. From the 14th floor of Fuhais Building, we will enjoy the magical view and learn about the 7 hills of Amman. Arriving at Al-Kalha stairs to see the new local street art and unique business models created by the youth we will end the tour.

Dinner with a family host can be arranged for a modest additional cost, if desired. Please send a direct message if you're interested.

My name is Anas Amarneh. I am the founder of Through Local Eyes, a start-up aiming to promote non-touristic destinations with unique stories to help local communities benefit from tourism in Jordan, and have their voices heard, while connecting touristic landmarks.
I am a Tourism Management university student. I have lived and worked in various rural areas in Jordan, where I contributed in developing alternative programs and activities.
My goal is to develop a new alternative Jordanian tourism map, which aims to be fair, sustainable and inclusive. I have great interest in politics, heritage, and identity, and have strong faith in the significance of cultural exchange. The programs I offer focus on fair, ethical, and sustainable experiences.

This tour was the best experience I've ever had in Amman. Anas's enthusiasm and passion for this city and the diversity of its people were immense and infectious. I learned more about the unique aspects of Amman's population in one evening than I ever could have learned on my own in a year. After you've seen the most famous sites of the city (which, of course, should not be missed), take this tour to learn about the *people* of Amman. It is truly eye-opening and thought-provoking, and it will leave you wanting more.

Anas is a wonderful m, charming individual with a genuine passion for both Amman and Jordan. He sensed what i was interested in and adapted the tour quickly to my wants. For example taking me to a small local gallery and into a cafe run for local students. I honestly can't recommend Anas and his tour enough

Truly special experience for someone who wants to know more and discuss culture, philosophy, politics, relationships, everything. Anas made it really special and I can't express my gratitude. I felt greatly welcome on my first day in Jordan (which was needed because of difficult times we live in now).

This is not a tour for those wanting to SEE Amman, this is for those who are looking to UNDERSTAND Amman. The tour takes you on a tour of downtown Amman, then to the west and east of the city. Learning as you go via the most excellent story-teller Anas. Not simply learning of the long ancient history of Amman, this tour is more about learning about life in Amman, the people and their customs. Hearing real stories from our guide aswell as many people throughout the city, Anas paints a perfect picture of what it means to be live in Amman. Anas is a wonderful person, we immediately felt at ease in his presence. Not your typical tour / tour guide relationship, it felt like we were walking around the city with an old friend. Telling jokes, giving the stories behind the beautiful street art that populates the cities walls and giving his personal insight into some of the most important moments in the history of modern Amman. We felt so welcomed when spending time with him. We did this tour on the second day we were in Amman and it was a great way for us to not only find our way around the city and the downtown area. It also made us feel at home in the city, and this all to do with our friendly guide. The final part of the tour took us to the home of a local family (optional extra, although I must say those who choose not to have dinner here are seriously missing out). We sat and shared stories on the roof of their home; with its excellent view of the city it was a perfect end to the day and the tour. The meal itself we ate was out of this world. There hasn’t been a day since where I haven’t told someone or thought about the meal. I cannot recommend this tour enough, not only was it the best experience I had in the country of Jordan, but the best I have had whilst travelling. The combination of the amazing city of Amman and our charismatic host made it truly an unforgettable experience. I intend on returning to Jordan, and I can say the first thing I will do is get in contact with my friend Anas. Book this tour for a once in a lifetime experience.

Really enjoyable way to get an understanding of contemporary Amman, it's people, culture and geography. Anas is a wonderful storyteller and it was great to spend some time with him and seeing downtown Amman from a different perspective
