What you'll do

Our tour has as destination the Morro da Urca, one of the postcards of Rio de Janeiro. We will walk for about 1.3 km of distance covered and elevation of 200 meters. This will take approximately 1 hour to the final destination, location of the first stop of the Sugar Loaf cable car (Pão de Açúcar Sugar). There we have a privileged view of the south zone, being possible to observe several mountains and beaches of the wonderful city. It will be a light / moderate walk that will begin on the Claudio Coutinho track, passing later on to a trail through the forest. We can also enjoy a total contact with nature, and it is our responsibility to minimize impacts and to ensure that the site continues to be preserved.
After all this we can enjoy the Praia Vermelha (Red Beach)! A small, but impressive, beach that has as background the Morro da Urca and the Sugar Loaf.

I'm 33 years old, geologist from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, climber and passionate about trails! Being in touch with nature is part of my essence and renews me every second. Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro have been doing this type of walk for more than 20 years. Learning more and more how to interact constructively with nature. Practicing outdoor sports provides rewarding self-knowledge, rewarding not only the body but also the mind.

Where you'll be

We will meet at the central monument of the square and I will tell some of the local history. Afterwards, we will start the sea side walk, arriving at the beginning of the trail, which in turn is well defined and has parts of artificial wooden stairs. At the top of the Urca Hill there are some local shops, being possible to buy something to drink and eat.

Great experience!!! I really recommend the hike. We were a group of two me and my husband and Guilherme was awsome to communicate with. We did the hike a day later than initially booked because of the bad weather and it was so much better in the sun! Keep that in mind when visiting Sugarloaf - weather conditions are essential! Guilherme was also kind enough to buy the tickets for the cable car for us because we only had cash on us and they only accepted cards! Thank you Guilherme, Greetings from Bulgaria

Luis is very passionate about this job. I was a group of one and he still did the trip. He was very encouraging throughout the journey. He ensured I was okay and drank water. I highly recommend. Ensure to have on good hiking shoes and plenty of water.
